Checking the regulated voltage (Hyundai Accent MC)

0
Note: This test is performed to determine the condition of the voltage regulator.

1. Check the battery charge (the battery must be fully charged) and the tension of the generator drive belt.

2. Turn off the ignition.

3. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery.

4. Connect the voltmeter: connect the "+" wire of the voltmeter to the "B" terminal of the generator, and the "-" wire of the voltmeter to the "ground" or "-" of the battery.

5. Disconnect the wire from the generator terminal "B".

6. Connect a DC ammeter (0-150A range) in series between the generator terminal "B" and the disconnected wire. Make sure that the "-" of the ammeter is connected to the disconnected wire.

7. Connect the tachometer and the negative battery cable.

8. Turn on the ignition and check that the voltmeter shows the battery voltage. If the voltmeter shows 0 V, there is an open circuit between the generator terminal "B" and the battery "+".

9. Start the engine, turn off the lights and additional equipment.

10. Set the crankshaft speed to 2500 rpm and read the voltmeter when the output current is 10 A or less.

11. If the voltmeter readings correspond to the nominal value, the voltage regulator is in good condition. If the voltmeter readings differ from the specified values, either the voltage regulator or the generator is faulty.

Voltage regulation value

Outside air temperature,°CNominal voltage, V
-2014,2-15,4
2014,0-15,0
6013,7-14,9
8013,5-14,7

12. After completing the check, reduce the engine speed to idle and turn off the ignition.

13. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery.

14. Disconnect the voltmeter, ammeter and tachometer.

15. Connect the wire to the "S(L)" terminal of the generator. Connect the wire to the negative terminal of the battery.
