2. Connect the spark plug lead to the spark plug (1.4L engine) or insert the spark plug into the ignition coil (1.6L engine).
3. Ground the spark plug to the cylinder block.
4. To prevent the injectors from operating, remove the fuel pump relay (4) from the fuse box in the engine compartment.
5. Turn the crankshaft with the starter for 5-10 seconds to check for a spark.
For 1.4L engines only
6. Measure the resistance of the primary winding of the ignition coil between the connector terminals. Nominal value: 0.87 Ohm ±10%.
7. Measure the resistance of the secondary winding between the high-voltage terminals of the coil. Nominal value: 13.0 kΩ ±15%
For 1.6L engines only
8. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance of the primary winding of the ignition coil. Nominal value: 0.7 ohms ±15%.
