Checking the fluid level in the automatic transmission (Hyundai Elantra XD)

0
Warning! The vehicle must be parked on a level, horizontal surface.

Procedure

1. Drive until the gearbox warms up to 70–80°C.

2. Park the car on a level horizontal surface.

3. With the engine running, move the selector lever from the "N" position to all positions and back to the "N" position.

4. Before removing the dipstick, wipe off any dirt from the area around the dipstick. Remove the dipstick and check the condition of the transmission fluid. Check the color of the automatic transmission fluid. Check the automatic transmission fluid for unusual odors. To determine the change in color and odor of the liquid, compare it with fresh liquid.

Caution: If the automatic transmission fluid has a burnt odor or is contaminated with particles of bushing material or friction, a major transmission overhaul may be required.

5. Check the fluid level, which should be between the "HOT" marks. If necessary, add the required amount of the required fluid. Transmission fluid: GENUINE HYUNDAI ATF SP–III.

Warning: Low fluid level can cause many problems as air gets into the fluid and the suspension of fluid and air becomes compressible, causing erratic pressure changes and failure of clutches and band brakes.

Caution! Also, an elevated fluid level causes the rotating gears of the transmission to whip up foam, which leads to the same results as air getting into the transmission fluid.

Attention! In any case, air bubbles lead to overheating and oxidation of the transmission fluid, which, getting into the valves, disrupts the operation of the clutch and brakes. Foaming may cause fluid to leak out, which may be mistaken for a fluid leak.

6. Insert the dipstick securely.

6. Insert the dipstick securely.

7. Transmission fluid and oil filters should always be replaced when performing a transmission overhaul.
