1. With the vehicle on a firm, level surface, set the front wheels to straight ahead.

2. Increase the engine crankshaft speed to 1000±100 min⁻¹.

3. Attach the dynamometer to the steering wheel spoke at the point furthest from the center of the wheel. With the front wheels set to straight ahead, measure the force required to turn the steering wheel left and right 1/4 turn. Force: 29 N.

1. Check that turning the steering wheel does not require excessive force.

2. If the measured force exceeds the required value, perform the following checks:
  • check the protective boots of the lower arm ball joints and the tie rod end for damage;
  • torque required to rotate the ball joint pin of the tie rod end;
  • the torque that must be applied to turn the lower arm ball joint journal.
