Procedure

1. Using a special tool, disconnect the tie rod end and joint.
2. Rock the ball joint pin of the tie rod end from side to side several times.

3. Screw two nuts onto the ball joint journal and measure the torque. Torque: 0.5–2.5 Nm.
4. If the torque exceeds the permissible values, replace the tie rod end.
5. If the torque is significantly lower than the allowable value, the ball joint can be used repeatedly as long as it does not jam or have excessive play.
