Procedure
1. Start the engine with the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position. With the front wheels in the straight ahead position, apply a force of 5 N to turn the steering wheel. Apply force along the outer diameter of the steering wheel.
2. Measure the free play around the steering wheel circumference. Steering wheel free play: 0–30 mm.
3. If the free play exceeds the permissible value, then the universal joints of the steering shaft or the steering gear are worn out.
