Indicator lamps (Hyundai Elantra XD)

0
Airbag warning light

The air bag indicator light comes on for approximately 6 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position or the engine is started, then goes out.

This light also comes on when there is a malfunction in the SRS supplemental restraint system. If the air bag indicator light does not come on or does not go out after the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position or after the engine is started, or comes on while the vehicle is being driven, have the SRS supplemental restraint system inspected by an authorized Hyundai dealer.

ABS Malfunction Indicator Light

The ABS brake malfunction indicator light comes on for a few seconds after the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position, then goes out. If this light does not go out, comes on while driving, or does not come on after the ignition key is turned to the "On" position, this indicates a malfunction of the ABS.

In this case, have the ABS checked by an authorized Hyundai dealer as soon as possible. If the ABS is faulty, the braking system remains functional.

Warning:
  • If the ABS warning light and the parking brake light/insufficient brake fluid level indicator continue to light at the same time, this indicates a possible malfunction of the Electronic Brake Force Distribution controller (E. B. D.).
  • In this case, avoid sudden braking and have the vehicle checked by a Hyundai dealer as soon as possible.

Traction control system indicator light

The lighting of the sectors of this control lamp depends on the position of the ignition key in the lock and on whether the system is on or off.

They should light up when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position and go out after three seconds. If the "TCS-OFF" light does not go out, take the vehicle to an authorized Hyundai dealer to have the system checked. More detailed information about the traction control system is given in section 2.

Direction indicator lamps

The flashing indicator lamps of the direction indicators are designed in the form of green arrows. If one of the lamps lights up continuously, flashes at a higher frequency, or does not light, this indicates a fault in the turn signal circuits. Have the problem corrected by your dealer.

High beam indicator lamp

The lamp lights up when the high beam headlights and high beam headlight signal are turned on.

Low Oil Pressure Warning Light

Attention:
  • If the oil pressure warning light comes on while the engine is running, this indicates a risk of serious engine damage. The indicator lamp lights up when there is insufficient oil pressure in the engine lubrication system. If the oil pressure is normal, the lamp lights up when the ignition is turned on and goes out after the engine starts.
  • If the lamp continues to light while the engine is running, this indicates a serious malfunction of the lubrication system.
  • In this case, stop driving as quickly as possible, turn off the engine and check the oil level. If the level is insufficient, add oil to the norm, then start the engine.
  • If the light remains on after this, stop the engine immediately. In all cases, when the lamp lights up with the engine running, further operation of the vehicle is possible only after the engine has been checked by an authorized Hyundai dealer.

Parking brake and low brake fluid warning light

Warning: If you are in doubt about the brake system, have it checked by a Hyundai dealer as soon as possible. Operating a vehicle with faulty electrical components and hydraulic brake systems is dangerous and could result in serious injury or death.

Operation of the control lamp

The parking brake/brake fluid level indicator light comes on when the parking brake is applied and the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" or "START" position. The light should go out after the engine is started and the parking brake is released.

If the parking brake is not applied, the lamp lights up when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" or "START" position, and goes out after the engine starts. If the lamp lights up in any other cases, you must reduce your speed and stop the car in a safe place on the road.

In this case, the warning lamp lights up to indicate that the brake fluid level in the brake system has dropped too low and that it needs to be restored to normal by adding brake fluid that meets DOT 3 and DOT 4 specifications. If no other faults are detected after the brake fluid level has been restored, the vehicle must be taken to a Hyundai dealer for inspection immediately and with caution. If other faults with the brake system are detected, further driving must be stopped and the vehicle must be delivered to a Hyundai dealer using a towing service or some other means.

Your Hyundai vehicle is equipped with a diagonally split brake system. This means that if one of the brake circuits fails, the other two wheels of the vehicle continue to operate. If one of the brake hydraulic circuits fails, the brake pedal travel increases and more force is required on the pedal to stop the vehicle. This increases the vehicle's braking distance. If a brake failure occurs while driving, use engine braking by engaging a low gear and stop the vehicle in a safe place as soon as possible.

Battery charge indicator light

The lamp should light when the ignition is turned on and go out after the engine starts. If the lamp does not go out when the engine is running, this indicates a malfunction in the battery charging system. If the lamp lights up while the vehicle is moving, stop driving, turn off the engine, open the hood and first check that the alternator drive belt is in place. If it is in place, check its tension.

After this, have the system checked by a Hyundai dealer.

Caution: If the alternator drive belt is loose, breaks, or becomes loose while the vehicle is moving, it will cause serious engine problems and the engine will overheat, as this belt also drives the water pump.

Seat belt warning light

The lamp flashes for approximately 6 seconds when the ignition key is turned from the "OFF" position to the "ON" or "START" position.

Trunk lid open warning light (4-door models) / rear door (5-door models)

The lamp remains on until the trunk lid/tailgate is securely closed and locked.

Side door open warning light

The lamp remains on until the doors are closed securely, and the buzzer sounds if the driver's door is not closed securely.

Fuel reserve indicator light

The lamp lights up when the fuel level in the tank drops to the reserve level. If it lights up, you need to refuel as soon as possible. If you continue driving with the fuel reserve indicator light on or if the fuel level on the gauge is below the "E" mark, the engine will misfire, which will damage the catalytic converter.

Speed controller indicator light (cruise control)

Speed controller indicator light (cruise control) in the instrument cluster lights up when you press the main system switch located on the end of the drum switch.

When you press the main switch again, the lamp should go out.

Front fog light indicator light

This indicator lamp comes on when the front fog lamp switch is turned on.

Engine Malfunction Indicator Light

The lamp lights up when there is a malfunction in the components related to the exhaust gas toxicity reduction system, and when there is a malfunction in the system that causes the exhaust gas toxicity standards to be exceeded. The lamp also lights up when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position and goes out after the engine starts. If it does not come on while driving or does not come on when the ignition key is turned to the "On" position, take your vehicle to your nearest authorized Hyundai dealer to have the system checked.

Traction Control System (TCS) Warning Light

This indicator lamp lights up according to the position of the ignition key and indicates when this system is operating. This indicator light comes on when you turn the ignition key to the "ON" position and goes out after a few seconds. If the Traction Control Light (TCL) illuminates, take your vehicle to an authorized Hyundai dealer to have the system checked. For more information on the Traction Control System (TCL), please refer to Section 2.

Immobilizer warning light

When the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position, the lamp lights up for a few seconds, during which the engine can be started. The light goes out after the engine starts. If the light goes out before you start the engine, turn the key to the "LOCK" position and try to start it again. If the lamp flashes for 5 seconds when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position, this indicates that the immobilizer has failed. In this case, the emergency engine starting procedure should be used (see here) or contact an official Hyundai dealer.

Pre-heating indicator lamp (diesel cars)

The lamp lights up yellow when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position. Once the pre-heating lamp goes out, you can start the engine. The duration of the lamp's burning varies depending on the coolant temperature, air temperature and the condition of the battery.

Note: If within 10 seconds after the preheating has finished (after the indicator light goes out) if the engine does not start, turn the ignition key to the "LOCK" position again, then to the "ON" position to repeat the pre-heating cycle.

Fuel filter water warning light (diesel cars)

The lamp lights up when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position and goes out after the engine starts. If the light comes on while the engine is running, this indicates the presence of water in the fuel filter. In this case, it is necessary to drain the water sediment from the fuel filter (see here).
