Disassembly
Internal elements of the steering knuckle
1 - hub;
2 - brake shield;
3 - rotary disk;
4 - bearing;
5 - retaining ring.
Remove the inner seal.
Using the tool, remove the hub.
Remove the two bolts and remove the brake shield.
Remove the retaining ring securing the outer bearing race from the steering knuckle.
Remove the hub bearing. To grasp the outer part of the inner race (1) using a puller, it is necessary to break the outer seal (2) in two places (arrows), as shown in the figure.
Using a puller, remove the inner bearing race from the hub.
After installing the outer part of the inner race removed from the hub into the bearing, use a puller to remove the bearing.
Remove the outer oil seal.
Check the condition of the contact surfaces of the front hub and brake disc for wear and damage.
Assembly
Assembly is carried out in reverse order, taking into account the following:
Install the hub bearing. Fill the bearing with grease.
Apply a thin coat of grease to the mating surfaces of the steering knuckle and hub. Using the tool, press the bearing into the steering knuckle.
Caution: The pressing force is applied to the outer bearing race.
After installing the retaining ring, install the outer seal. Install the oil seal using a mandrel (from the hub side) into the knuckle flush with the end surface of the steering knuckle Apply grease to the working lip of the seal and the inner and end surfaces of the seal that contact the hub.
Install the brake shield.
Install the hub. Using an indicator, measure the axial clearance of the hub bearing, for which purpose first secure the steering knuckle in a vice. The maximum permissible value is 0.05 mm. If, when tightening the nut with a torque of 216-255 Nm, the values of the torque of the start of rotation and the axial clearance of the hub bearing are not within the specified limits, it is necessary to replace the bearing and reassemble the unit. Tighten the nut to a torque of 216-255 Nm.
Apply grease to the back of the inner seal. Install the inner oil seal (1) into the steering knuckle (2) until it contacts the retaining ring.
