Starting a diesel engine

Starting a cold engine

Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position and wait until the pre-heating indicator lamp comes on. Turn on the starter and start the engine.

Starting a warm engine

Turn on the starter. If the engine does not start, try again after a few seconds, waiting until the pre-heating period has ended.

Normal condition

Sequence of actions when starting the engine:
  • 1. Insert the key into the ignition and fasten the seat belt.
  • 2. Press the clutch pedal all the way down and set the gearshift lever to neutral (in a car with a manual transmission) or set the automatic transmission selector lever to the "P" (Park) position.
  • 3. Set the ignition key to the "ON" position and make sure that all indicator lights and indicators are working properly before starting the engine.
  • 4. On a vehicle with a diesel engine, turn the ignition key to the "ON" position. The yellow preheating indicator lamp lights up and goes out after a short time, indicating that preheating is complete.

Note: If the engine does not start within 10 seconds after the preheating cycle has ended, repeat the preheating cycle by turning the ignition key to the "LOCK" position, then to the "ON" position.

Warning: When starting the engine of a vehicle with a manual transmission, fully depress the clutch pedal. If the clutch is not fully disengaged, the vehicle may jerk forward or backward, which may cause injury to people in or outside the vehicle.

  • 5. Turn the ignition key to the "START" position and release it immediately after the engine starts.
