Engine exhaust gases are toxic (Hyundai Elantra XD)

0
Engine exhaust gases are extremely toxic. If you smell exhaust fumes in the car, immediately roll down the door windows.

Do not inhale exhaust gases

Exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless gas that, when inhaled, can cause unconsciousness and death.

Check for leaks in the exhaust system

The exhaust system should be checked every time the vehicle is placed on a lift for an oil change or other purpose. If you notice a change in exhaust sound or hit an object that strikes the underbody, have your exhaust system checked by a Hyundai dealer as soon as possible.

Do not allow the engine to operate in a closed area

Idling the engine in the garage is dangerous even with the garage door open. Inside the garage, the engine should only run for the time required to start it and drive it out of the garage.

Do not allow the engine to idle for long periods of time when there are people in the vehicle

Long-term engine idling with people in the vehicle is only permitted in open areas. In this case, the ventilation system should operate in the outside air intake mode, and the cabin fan should be turned on at one of the high speeds.

If you are forced to drive with the tailgate open when transporting large items:
  • 1. Raise all door windows.
  • 2. Open the side air vents.
  • 3. Turn on the outside air intake, face or floor air supply, and turn on the cabin fan at one of the high speeds.

To ensure efficient operation of the interior ventilation system, keep the air intakes located in front of the windshield free of snow, ice, leaves or other objects.
