On a vehicle with an automatic transmission, move the selector lever to the "P" (Park) position.
To start the engine, insert the ignition key and turn it to the "START" position. Release the key immediately after the engine starts. Do not hold the key in the "START" position for more than 15 seconds.
Note: For safety reasons, the engine cannot be started unless the automatic transmission selector lever is in the "P" or "N" position.
Ignition key positions
Warning: Do not stop the engine or remove the ignition key while the vehicle is moving. When the ignition key is removed, the steering wheel will be locked.
Position "START" ("Starter")
The engine starts in this position. The engine is turned by the starter for the entire time the key is held in this position.
Note: Do not hold the key in the "START" position for more than 15 seconds.
Position "ON" ("Ignition")
In this position, the ignition is turned on and all auxiliary equipment can be switched on. Do not leave the key in the "ON" position when the engine is not running. This may cause the battery to discharge and the ignition system to malfunction.
Position "ACC" ("Auxiliary equipment")
In the "ACC" position, it is possible to turn on some types of electrical equipment (audio systems, etc.).
"LOCK" position
In this position the key is removed and inserted.
To protect the car from theft, the steering wheel is locked when the key is removed.
Note: To unlock the steering wheel, insert the key into the lock and turn it while turning the steering wheel slightly from side to side.
To remove the ignition key:
1. Turn the key to the "ACC" position.
2. Press the key and turn it counterclockwise from the "ACC" position to the "LOCK" position.
3. In the "LOCK" position, the key is removed.
