Attention: do not allow prolonged operation of the engine at high speeds and sudden accelerations when the engine is cold.
Egnition lock
1. Position "LOCK". The engine is not running and the steering wheel is locked, only in this position can the key be inserted into the lock and the key removed from the ignition.
Note: After opening the driver's door, the ignition switch light will come on if the ignition key is in any position other than "ON". The backlight will turn off 10 seconds after the ignition key is turned to the "ON" or closing the door.
2. Position "ACC". The engine does not run, the radio, cigarette lighter, etc. may operate.
3. ''ON' position". Ignition on (engine running or not running) and all electrical circuits are on.
4. Position "START". The crankshaft of the engine is scrolled by a starter. After starting the engine, release the key and it will automatically return to the "ON".
Attention:
- Do not remove the key from the ignition while the vehicle is moving, as this will lock the steering wheel and make it impossible to steer the vehicle.
- If the engine is stopped while the vehicle is moving, the brake booster stops working and the braking efficiency is reduced. The power steering also does not work, and significant physical effort is required to control the steering wheel.
- Don't leave the key in position "ON" for a long time when the engine is not running, as this will drain the battery.
- Do not turn the ignition key to position "START" with the engine running. This could damage the starter.
- To remove the key from the ignition switch, turn it to the "ACC" (for models with automatic transmission, set the selector lever to position "R"), and then, while pressing, turn the key to position "LOCK"
- If the vehicle is equipped with an electronic locking device (immobilizer), then in order to start the engine, it is necessary that the identification code that is issued by the built-in responder key matches the identification code registered in the computer of the blocking device.
Before launch
1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Turn off unnecessary lights and accessories.
Attention: if outdoor lights are on (headlights or front fog lights), the battery capacity will decrease and it will be difficult to start the engine.
3. For models with manual transmission:
- A) Fully depress the clutch pedal and move the shift lever to neutral.
- b) Keep the clutch pedal depressed until the engine starts.
Attention: on a car with a manual transmission, it is possible to move the car at start-up if the gear lever is not in the neutral position and the clutch pedal is not depressed.
4. For models with automatic transmission:
- A) Set the automatic transmission selector to position "R". On restart (stalled engine) set the automatic transmission selector lever to the position "N".
- b) Press the brake pedal and hold it until you start moving.
Engine starting
Attention:
- Do not crank the engine for more than 15 seconds at a time. This can lead to battery discharge, overheating of the starter and circuit connections. If the engine does not start within 15 seconds, turn the ignition key to the "LOCK" and before the next attempt, take a break of at least one minute.
- Do not start or leave the vehicle engine running. indoors, as poisoning from exhaust gases is possible.
- After starting, warm up the engine until the needle of the coolant temperature gauge begins to move (engine speed is decreasing). Warming up too long will increase fuel consumption.
1. Set the key in the ignition switch to position "ON".
2. Under normal conditions, without depressing the accelerator pedal, turn the key in the ignition lock to the position "START" and turn the crankshaft of the engine with a starter until the engine starts. Release the key as soon as the engine starts.
Note:
If the engine does not start in very cold weather, depress the accelerator pedal halfway before starting the engine. After starting the engine, gradually release the accelerator pedal. On models with an ABS system, extraneous sounds will be heard from the engine compartment during the engine start (clicks) and the noise of the pump motor. In addition, a pulsation will be felt on the brake pedal. These sounds are associated with the self-diagnosis procedures of this system.
3. If the engine is cold, then warm it up. After automatically reducing the increased engine warm-up speed, the car is ready to move.
If the engine won't start...
1. Before performing checks, make sure that the starting procedure has been followed correctly and that there is sufficient fuel in the tank.
2. If the engine crankshaft does not turn or turns too slowly:
- A) Check that the battery terminals are clean and securely fastened.
- b) If the battery terminals are OK, then turn on the interior lighting. If the lighting is absent, dim, or goes out when the engine is cranked over by the starter, the battery is discharged. Start with a booster battery.
- V) If the lighting is normal, but the engine does not start, then it is faulty.
Caution: Do not attempt to start the engine by towing or pushing for a long time, as the timing belt may jump a few teeth and cause the piston to hit the valves. In addition, the catalytic converter may fail, overheat and cause a fire (fire).
3. If the engine cranks normally, but the engine does not start, then:
- A) Check the tightness of the connectors (e.g. connections for spark plugs, ignition coils, etc.).
- b) If the connectors are OK, then the spark plugs may be "flooded''.
Starting with a booster battery
Attention: the booster battery voltage must be 12V. Do not start with the booster battery unless you are sure its parameters are correct.
1. Turn off all unnecessary lights and accessories and make sure the vehicles are not touching.
Caution: Apply the parking brake securely on each vehicle. Move the automatic transmission selector lever to position "R" or the manual transmission lever to position "N".
2. If necessary, remove all vent plugs from booster and dead batteries. Lay a cloth over the open vents on the batteries (this helps to reduce the risk of explosion).
3. If the booster battery vehicle does not run, start it and let it run for a few minutes. When starting with a booster battery, the engine should run at approximately 2000 rpm.
4. Connecting cables.
- A) Connect the cables in the order shown in the figure.
Note: To avoid serious injury when making connections, do not lean over the battery or allow the cables or clamps to accidentally touch anything other than the appropriate battery terminals or "masses".
- b) Connect the clamp on the other end of the negative booster battery cable to a rigid, fixed, unpainted metal part of the vehicle's engine with the dead battery.
Attention: do not connect the cable near any part that can move when the engine is cranked.
5. Start the engine in the usual way. Once started, it should run for a few minutes.
6. Carefully disconnect the cables, negative first, then positive in reverse order of connection.
7. Carefully remove fabrics covering batteries as they may contain sulfuric acid.
8. If the vent plugs have been removed, reinstall them.
Features of starting the engine on models with an ABS system with a completely discharged battery
If, when the battery is completely discharged, an external power source is used to start the engine and the vehicle immediately starts moving (without giving a dead battery some time to recharge), then interruptions in the ignition system may begin, which will lead to a stop of the car and the inability to continue driving.
This phenomenon occurs as a result of the high current consumption of the ABS system for self-diagnosis. To avoid this phenomenon, it is necessary either to allow the battery to charge while the engine is idling, or to disable the system by removing the appropriate fuse from the circuit of this system in the engine compartment.
Note: The ABS indicator will come on if the corresponding fuse is removed.
After the battery is sufficiently charged, turn off the engine, reinstall the fuse (for ABS system) and start the engine again. At the same time, make sure that the ABS indicator is off.
Starting with a faulty immobilizer
1. To start with a faulty immobilizer, a 4-digit secret owner code is required, which is entered into the immobilizer system by a special sequence of ignition ON / OFF cycles.
Note: The owner's secret code can be obtained from an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
2. To enter each digit, you need to turn the ignition key at intervals "OFF" → "ON" → "OFF" the corresponding number of times. After entering each digit, you need to wait 3-10 seconds.
3. After entering the owner's secret code, the system will unlock for 30 seconds to start the engine. After this period of time has elapsed, the engine cannot be started.
Attention: if the engine stalls while driving in emergency mode, it can only be started for 8 seconds.
