Starting the engine of cars with a carburetor engine (Hyundai Accent LC)

Normal engine start

1. On a vehicle with a manual transmission, place the gearshift lever in the "N" ("Neutral") position and depress the clutch pedal. On a vehicle with an automatic transmission, place the selector lever in the "P" ("Park") position.

Warning! Make sure you fully depress the clutch pedal before starting the engine with a manual transmission. Otherwise, there is a risk that if the vehicle jumps forward or backwards when the engine starts, this could cause damage or injury to persons outside the vehicle at that moment.

2. Turn the ignition key to the "START" position. Release the key when the engine starts. If the engine does not start on the first try, do not keep the starter engaged for more than 15 seconds. Wait a few seconds before trying again.

Cold engine start

1. Press the accelerator pedal all the way down and release it.

2. Turn the ignition key to the "START" position. Release the key when the engine starts.

Warning! Do not start the engine with the transmission in gear.

Warning! Do not leave the vehicle unattended while the engine is warming up. If the vehicle is in a garage, make sure the garage doors are open. It is dangerous to leave the vehicle with the engine running, even with the garage doors open. Do not let the engine run in the garage longer than necessary to start the engine and drive the vehicle out of the garage.

Starting a warm engine

While turning the engine crankshaft with the starter, press the accelerator pedal approximately halfway down.

Warning! If the engine fails to start due to the ambient temperature being too high, press the accelerator pedal all the way down while cranking the engine with the starter.

Turn the ignition key to the "START" position and when the engine starts, release the ignition key and the accelerator pedal.

Over-enrichment of the fuel-air mixture ("flooding the spark plugs")

Press and hold the accelerator pedal until the engine starts. Do not "pump" (press repeatedly) the accelerator pedal.

Warning! If it is necessary to warm up the engine for a long time, make sure that there is no dry paper or other flammable objects near the exhaust pipe.
