Starting the engine

If your Hyundai vehicle is equipped with a manual transmission, move the gear shift lever to neutral and fully depress the clutch pedal.

If your Hyundai vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission, move the selector lever to the "P" (Park) position.

To start the engine, insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to the "START" position. Release the ignition key immediately after the engine starts. Do not hold the ignition key in the "START" position for more than 15 seconds.

Warning! For safety reasons, the vehicle's engine cannot be started unless the automatic transmission selector is in the "P" (Park) or "N" (Neutral) position (automatic transmission vehicles only).

Key positions in the ignition switch: 1 – LOCK; 2 – ACC (additional equipment); 3 – ON; 4 – START (Starter)

Warning! Do not turn off the engine or remove the key from the ignition while the vehicle is moving. This will cause the steering wheel to lock and the vehicle to become uncontrollable.

START ("Starter")

Start the engine by turning the ignition key to the START position. The engine will be turned over by the starter until you release the key, which will automatically return to the ON position. In this position, the brake system indicator lamp will also light to check the lamp's operation. If the ignition key is difficult to turn to the START position, this may be due to pressure from the steering wheel shaft on the anti-theft device lock. To turn the key, turn the steering wheel left and right to relieve pressure on the lock and turn the key.

Warning! Do not hold the ignition key in the "SART" ("Starter") position for more than 15 seconds.

ON

If the key is in this position, you can check the car's warning lights. So, before starting the engine, make sure that all the car's systems are working properly. Once you start the engine, the ignition key will return to this position and remain there for the entire time the engine is running.

If the engine is not running for a long time, do not leave the key in the ON position because this will cause unnecessary discharge of the battery.

ACC ("Additional Equipment")

When the key is turned to this position, it is possible to turn on individual car accessories, such as the radio and windshield wipers. The engine is turned off.

LOCK

The steering wheel shaft is locked by an anti-theft device and the steering wheel cannot be turned. This protects the car from theft. The key can only be removed from the ignition switch in this position. In models equipped with an automatic transmission, the mode shift lever is also locked in the "P" (parking) position in this position of the key.

Warning: To unlock the steering wheel, insert the key into the ignition switch and turn the steering wheel slightly while turning the ignition key.
