1. Make sure the belts are not damaged and are correctly installed in the pulley grooves.

Warning. If there is noise or the belt slips, check the belt for wear, damage, and breaks on the contact surface with the pulleys, and the pulleys for striated wear. Also check the amount of belt deflection.

2. Apply a force of 100 N to the middle part of the belt between the pulleys as shown in the figure and measure its deflection.

2. Apply a force of 100 N to the middle part of the belt between the pulleys as…

Standard values:

NameExaminationAdjustment
NewUsed one
For alternating current generatorDeviation, mm5.0-6.04.0-5.05.0-5.5
Tension H350-500550-450400-500
For air conditioning compressorDeviation, mmapproximately 8.05.0-5.56.0-7.0
Power steering pump dmDeviation, mm6.0-9.0--

Note.
  • 1. Belt tension should be measured between the marked pulleys.
  • 2. When installing a new belt, adjust its tension to the average normal value listed in the "new" column. Then run the engine for 5 minutes or more and check the normal value listed in the "check" column.

3. When installing a belt that has already been used, or a newly installed belt that has been used for 5 minutes or more, use the normal value listed in the "used" column as a guide.

4. For periodic monitoring, use the normal values given in the "check" column.

Tension Tester Type A

Tension Tester Type A

1. Make sure that the dial section of the tension gauge does not come into contact with other objects during measurement.

Tension Meter Type B

Tension Meter Type B

1. When measuring, remember to turn the button in the direction of the arrow to set the pointer to the ready for measurement position.

2. After removing the gauge from the belt, its indicator continues to show tension. Read the gauge reading after removing the gauge from the belt.

Adjusting the alternator belt tension

Warning. If the belt is too loose, it will make noise and wear out quickly. If the belt is too tight, it will cause wear on the generator or water pump bearings.

1. Loosen the generator nut "A" and the tensioner lock bolt "B".

2. Use the adjusting bolt to adjust the tension to the values specified in specifications.

3. Tighten the tensioner lock bolt "B".

4. Tighten the generator nut "A".

5. Check the belt tension (deflection) and adjust if necessary.

Tightening torque

  • Generator nut "A" - 20-25 Nm (200-250 kgf·cm)
  • Lock bolt "B" - 12-15 Nm (120-150 kgf·cm)
  • Belt length - 875±5 mm

Adjusting the Power Steering Pump Belt

1. Loosen the power steering pump adjusting bolt.

1. Loosen the power steering pump adjusting bolt.

2. Adjust the tension (deflection) of the power steering pump belt in accordance with specification.

3. Tighten the adjusting bolt.

4. Turn the engine crankshaft one revolution or more.

5. Check the belt tension and readjust the tension if necessary.

5. Check the belt tension and readjust the tension if necessary.

Adjusting the tension of the air conditioning compressor drive belt

1. Loosen the adjusting bolt "A" on the tension pulley.

2. Adjust the belt deflection using the adjusting screw "B".

2. Adjust the belt deflection using the adjusting screw «B».

3. Tighten the lock bolt "A".

4. If necessary, repeat the adjustment and check the belt deflection again.

Note: Before rechecking the deflection, turn the crankshaft with the handle one or more revolutions.
