Adjusting the alternator drive belt tension (Hyundai Getz 1)

Caution! If the belt is loose, it will make extraneous noise during operation and will be subject to premature wear. If the belt is too tight, damage to the water pump or generator bearings may occur.


1. Loosen the generator mounting nut "A" and the tension adjustment lock bolt "B".

2. Turn the tension bar adjusting bolt to adjust the belt tension.

3. Tighten bolt "B" to fix the tension adjustment bolt.

4. Tighten the generator mounting nut "A".

5. Check the belt tension or deflection and readjust if necessary.

Tightening torque:
  • 1.3L Engine:
    • Generator bracket fastening nut "A": 20-25 N·m
    • Locking bolt "B" for fixing the tension adjustment bolt: 15–22 N·m
    • Tension bar mounting bolt: 20–28 N·m

Tension bar mounting bolt: 20–28 N·m

  • 1.1L Engine:
    • Generator bracket mounting bolt and nut: 20–25 N·m
    • Locking bolt "B" for fixing the tension adjustment bolt: 12-15 N·m
    • Tension bar mounting bolt: 20–27 N·m
