1. Check engine oil level. Make sure the starter is working properly and the battery is fully charged.
2. Determine the position of the top dead center and delete the top dead center data from the memory of the engine control unit.
3. Start the engine and warm it up to a temperature of 80–95°С.
4. Disconnect a socket from the fuel pump.
5. Switch off the engine and remove tips of high-voltage wires from spark plugs.
6. Turn out spark plugs.
7. Disconnect a socket from the block of management of system of ignition.
8. Rotate the engine crankshaft.
9. Screw the tip of the compression gauge into the spark plug hole.
10. Fully open the throttle by fully depressing the accelerator pedal.
11. Turn the crankshaft of the engine with a starter and determine the compression on the scale of the device.
Compression: 1500 kpa
Minimum allowable compression: 1400 kPa
12. Repeat steps 9-11 on the remaining cylinders, making sure that the differential pressure for each of the cylinders is within acceptable limits.
Permissible pressure drop in the engine cylinders: no more than 150 kpa
13. If compression is low in all cylinders, pour a few drops of engine oil into the cylinders through the spark plug holes and repeat steps 9-12.
- 1) If adding oil raises compression, the piston rings may be worn.
- 2) If the compression remains at the same level, the valves may have burned out or the cylinder head gasket may have been damaged.
