Removal
1. Remove the wide hose and crankcase ventilation valve.
2. Remove the timing belt cover.
3. Remove the cylinder head cover.
4. Unscrew the flange bolts and remove the rocker arm shaft, rocker arms and springs as an assembly.
5. Unscrew the bolts and remove the rocker arms and springs from the shaft.
Examination
Rocker arms
1. Check the rocker arm socks. If there is damage or scoring, replace the rocker arms.
2. Check the condition of the rocker arm working surfaces that contact the valve stems and camshaft cam. If severely worn or damaged, replace the rocker arms.
3. Check the surfaces of the valve lash adjusters that contact the valve stem. If the surface is worn or damaged, replace the hydraulic valve lash adjusters.
Rocker shaft
1. Check the rocker arm shafts for damage.
2. Check the cleanliness of the grease supply hole.
Installation
1. Install the rocker arms and springs onto the rocker shaft. Install the rocker shaft onto the cylinder head and secure with bolts, tightening them to the specified torque.
Tightening torque:
- 1.3L engine: 20–27 Nm
- 1.1L engine: 22–37 Nm
2. When installing the rocker arms, shafts and springs, pay attention to the difference between rocker arms A and rocker arms B.
The springs of the rocker shafts of the intake and exhaust valves are the same. Install them so that the small chamfer between the two parts of the rocker shaft is located on the side of the timing drive.
3. Install the cylinder head cover and secure with bolts, tightening them to the required torque.
Tightening torque: 8–10 Nm.
Attention!
- 1. Before installing the cylinder head cover, apply a layer of sealant to the mating surface of the cylinder head.
- 2. Apply a thin layer of sealant, otherwise it will be squeezed out under the cylinder head cover and may interfere with the operation of the valve drive mechanism.
- 3. Use only the specified or equivalent grade of sealant.
- 4. Sealant (Three bond # 1212D aluminum color) apply in four places.
4. Install the timing belt cover.
Tightening torque: 10–12 Nm.
5. Install the wide hose, PCV valve, bypass hose and spark plug wires.
6. Connect the air intake pipe.
