Total gear preload
1. To measure the preload, rotate the pinion gear at a rate of 1 revolution per 4-6 seconds. Compare the obtained value with the standard value.
- Total gear preload (standard value) - 0.6-1.3 Nm
Warning: Preload is measured over the entire stroke of the rack.
Steering tie rod resistance
1. Rock the steering rod hard 10 times.
2. Using a spring scale, measure the steering rod swing resistance.

3. If the measured value exceeds the upper standard value, replace the steering rod assembly.
