Steering column and shaft — removal, inspection and assembly (Hyundai Accent X3)

Tightening torques: Nm (kgf cm, lb ft)

Removal and inspection

1. Remove the horn cover assembly.

2. Remove the horn plates and horn button connector.

3. Remove the steering wheel lock nut.

4. Align the marks on the shaft and steering wheel and remove the steering wheel using the special tool (09561-11002).



5. Remove the lower damper pad and rheostat connector.

6. Remove the speaker cover.

7. Disconnect the connectors.

8. Remove the multifunction switch.

9. Remove the bolt (connecting the universal joint and the gear.

10. Remove the bolts securing the column bracket to the body frame, then remove the steering column and shaft assembly.

11. Check the steering column and shaft for damage and deformation, joints, bracket, operation of the steering column lock mechanism, and dust cover.

Assembly

Assembly is carried out in the reverse order of disassembly.
