
Removal
1. Loosen the screws, lift up the horn cushion and remove it.
2. Remove the lock nut and washer.
Warning: Before performing these operations, read the chapter on safety precautions handling the airbag.
3. Using a special tool (09561-11001) remove the steering wheel.
4. Remove the upper and lower steering column covers.
5. Remove the lower casing.
6. Disconnect the wiring from the electrical connectors and remove the multifunction switch.
7. Loosen the mounting bolts, coupling sleeve and joint. Remove the coupling and universal joint from the steering gear housing.
8. Remove the dust cover and unscrew the mounting bolts.
9. Unscrew the steering column mounting bolts (4 bolts).
10. Remove the steering column and shaft together with the joint and dust cover.
Examination
1. Check the steering shaft for damage, play and wobble.
2. Check the hinges for excessive play, damage, or ease of rotation.
3. Check the tilt bracket for cracks or damage.
4. Check the casing or cuff for damage.
5. Check the operation of the steering mechanism.
Installation
1. Before installation, apply multi-purpose grease to the groove on the inside of the bearing and the contact surfaces of the seal and cover assembly.
2. Connect the lower part of the steering shaft to the joint.
Note: When installing, first secure the U-joint to the steering gear housing and then to the steering shaft.
3. Install the dust cover together with the steering shaft.
4. Install the steering column assembly and secure it with 4 bolts.
5. Install the multi-function switch and connect it to the electrical connectors.
6. Install the bottom cover, top and bottom casings.
7. Install the steering wheel.
Note: Do not use a hammer during installation to avoid damaging the collapsible telescopic steering column.
