Withdrawal
1. Loosen the screws, lift up the horn pad and remove it.
2. Remove the lock nut and washer.
Warning. Before performing these operations, read the chapter for precautions for handling the airbag.
3. With a special tool (09561-11001) remove the steering wheel.
4. Remove the top and bottom covers of a steering column.
5. Remove the bottom cover.
6. Disconnect the wiring from the electrical connectors and remove the multifunction switch.
7. Turn away bolts of fastening, coupling and hinge. Remove the clutch and universal joint from the steering box.
8. Remove a dustproof cover and turn away fixing bolts.
9. Turn away fixing bolts of a steering column (4 bolts).
10. Remove a steering column and a shaft together with the hinge and a dustproof cover.
Examination
1. Check the steering shaft for damage, play and runout.
2. Check the hinges for excessive play, damage, or ease of rotation.
3. Check the tilt bracket for cracks or damage.
4. Check up a casing or a cuff on absence of damages.
5. Check up operation of the steering mechanism.
Installation
1. Apply multipurpose grease to the groove on the inside of the bearing and to the mating surfaces of the seal and cover assembly prior to installation.
2. Connect the lower part of a steering shaft with the hinge.
Note. When installing, attach the U-joint to the steering box first and then to the steering shaft.
3. Install the dust cover together with the steering shaft.
4. Install steering column assembly and secure with 4 bolts.
5. Install the multifunction switch and connect it to the electrical connectors.
6. Install the bottom cover, top and bottom shrouds.
7. Install the steering wheel.
Note. When installing, do not use a hammer to avoid damaging the collapsible telescopic steering column.
