Recommended Automatic Transmission Fluid
The automatic transmission of your Hyundai vehicle is designed to use DIAMOND ATF SP-III or SK ATF SP-III. Damage caused by using the wrong automatic transmission fluid is not covered by your new vehicle warranty.
Fluid volume for automatic transmission
The volume of automatic transmission fluid is: Engine (1,6 DOHC) - 6.1 liters; Engine (1,8/2,0 DOHC) - 7.8 liters.
Warning: Automatic transmission fluid must be checked at normal operating coolant temperature. This means that the engine, radiator, exhaust system, etc. will be very hot. Be especially careful when performing this operation.
Checking the Fluid Level in an Automatic Transmission
Park your vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake. The automatic transmission fluid must be at normal operating temperature and the engine must be idling while checking the automatic transmission fluid level.
With the engine idling, press the brake pedal and alternately move the selector from the position «R» in each of the following positions - «R», «N», «D», «3» (1,8/2,0 DOHC) «2», «L» - and then return it to position «N».
Leave the engine idling and do the following:
1. Open the hood, being careful not to get your hands, long hair or clothing caught in the rotating parts.
2. Remove the automatic transmission dipstick, wipe it dry, insert as far as it will go and remove it again. Check the oil level on the dipstick. It must be in the range «NOT» («Hot») on the probe.
The ATF level must be in the range «NOT» («Hot»).
3. If the fluid level is low, add fluid to the mark «NOT» («Hot») on the dipstick through the dipstick hole using a funnel. Do not add too much liquid.
Warning: The radiator fan of the cooling system turns on depending on the temperature of the engine coolant and may sometimes turn on even when the engine is not running. Be especially careful when working near the fan blades to avoid injury from the rotating blades. As the coolant temperature drops, the fan turns off automatically. This is normal.
