Keep the condenser clean
Periodically check the air conditioner condenser (and engine cooling radiator), to make sure it is not clogged with dirt, insect debris, leaves, etc. This may reduce the air cooling efficiency. Clean with a brush or water jet, being careful not to bend the heat sink plates.
Checking the operation of the air conditioner
1. Start the engine at fast idle and turn on the air conditioner to the maximum cold.
2. If uncooled air comes out of the ventilation nozzles on the dashboard, have the air conditioner checked by a Hyundai dealer.
Attention: Long-term operation of the air conditioner with a low level of refrigerant may lead to the failure of the air conditioner.
Lubricant
To ensure sufficient lubrication of the compressor and seals of the air conditioner, it must be turned on for at least 10 minutes weekly. This is especially important during the cold season when the air conditioner is not in use.
Checking the tension of the compressor drive belt
With regular use of the air conditioner, the tension of the compressor drive belt must be checked at least once a month.
To check the belt tension, press it firmly with your finger in the middle of the branch between the crankshaft and compressor pulleys. In this case, the deflection of the belt should not be more than 8 mm. When checked with a force measuring device, the deflection of the belt at a pressing force of 98 N should be about 8 mm. If the belt deflection is greater than the specified value, have the belt tension adjusted by your Hyundai dealer.
