Removal
1. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve suction hose.
2. Remove the water pump pulley and crankshaft pulley.
3. Remove the timing belt cover.
4. Move the timing belt tensioner pulley towards the water pump and temporarily secure it.
5. Remove the timing belt from the camshaft sprocket and remove it completely.
6. Remove the camshaft sprocket.

7. Remove the ignition coil assembly.
8. Remove the rocker arm cover.
9. Remove the rocker arm shaft assembly (See. "Rocker arms and their shafts").
10. Remove the camshaft bearing caps.
11. Remove the camshaft.
Examination
1. Check the camshaft journals for wear. If they are significantly worn, replace the camshaft.
2. Check the cam lobe for damage. If damaged or badly worn, replace the camshaft.

3. Check each bearing for damage. If its surface is excessively worn, replace the cylinder head assembly or camshaft bearing cap. as necessary.
4. Oil seal (camshaft nose).
- 1) Check the edges for wear. If the edges are worn, replace the seal.
- 2) Check the contact surface of the camshaft oil seal edge. If it is in the wear stage, replace the camshaft.
Axial clearance of the camshaft - 0.07-0.18 mm
Installation
1. Install the camshaft after lubricating its journals with engine oil.
2. Install the camshaft bearing caps.
3. Install the ignition coil.
4. Install the rocker arms and their shafts.
5. Using a special tool to install the camshaft seal (09221-21000), press the camshaft oil seal in place. Make sure engine oil is applied to the outer surface of the seal.
Place the seal on the front end of the camshaft and install it by moving the device with a hammer until the seal is fully seated.
6. Install the camshaft sprocket and tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
7. Align the marks on the crankshaft and camshaft sprockets. The piston of cylinder No.1 should be at the top dead center of the compression stroke.
Tightening torque: Camshaft sprocket bolt - 80-100 Nm
8. Install the gasket into the recess of the rocker cover.

9. Temporarily install the rocker cover.
10. Start the engine and let it idle.
11. Install the rocker arm cover and tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: Rocker cover bolt - 8-10 Nm
12. Install the timing belt cover.
13. Install the water pump pulley and crankshaft pulley.
