21. Oil valve for adjusting the timing phase
Note: Structurally, the cylinder heads of both engines are almost the same. The differences in the 1.6L engine block head are the presence of an oil channel for the timing valve and a modified rear due to the installation of a timing regulator and chain tensioner.
Disassembly
Note: when disassembling, place the removed parts in the removal sequence so that they are not mixed up during installation.
1. Remove the hydraulic tappets (A) and place them in such a way that during assembly you can install the pushers in their places.
2. Using a suitable tool, compress the valve spring and remove the upper support cotters.
3. Remove the valve spring plate.
4. Remove valve spring and valve.
5. Using pliers, remove the valve stem seal.
6. Use a magnet to remove the valve spring seat.
Repeat steps 2-6 for all valves.
Assembly
Note: Thoroughly clean all parts of oil. Apply engine oil to the working surfaces of the parts before installation.
7. Install the lower valve spring supports.
8. Using a suitable tool, install a new valve stem seal.
Note: Incorrect installation of the valve stem seal may result in oil leakage through the valve guide.
9. Install valve, valve spring and poppet
Note: Install the valve spring like this. so that the enameled part of the coil is facing up.
10. Using a suitable tool, compress the valve spring and install the cotters. After installing the valve, check that the cotters are correctly installed before releasing the spring.
11. Tap the valve lightly 2-3 times with a wooden mallet to ensure that the nuts are seated correctly.
12. Establish a hydraulic pusher and check up smoothness of its rotation.
