Checking and adjusting the brake pedal (Hyundai Accent MC)

1. Disconnect the brake light switch connector (2). Loosen the switch lock nut (1) and pull the switch out so that it does not touch the brake pedal.

2. Fold back the floor covering and measure the height of the pedal (3) from the body floor to the center line of the pedal pad (4). Nominal value: 164.8 mm.

3. Loosen the lock nut (5) of the push rod and, turning the push rod with pliers, adjust the pedal height. After adjustment, tighten the lock nut.

Caution: Do not press on the master cylinder plunger during adjustment.

4. Press the brake pedal 2-3 times to create a vacuum in the vacuum booster. Press the brake pedal (B) with your hand and measure the free play (A) of the pedal (until resistance appears). Nominal value: 3-8 mm.

5. If the free play is less than the standard value, check the clearance between the pedal and the brake light switch (C). If the free play is greater than the standard value, there is excessive clearance between the hinge pin and the brake pedal.

6. Start the engine, depress the brake pedal with a force of approximately 120 kg (1176.8 N) and check for leaks in the brake system lines.
