Checking and adjusting the brake pedal (Hyundai Sonata EF)

1. Check the gap "A" between the brake light switch and the pedal travel limiter.

Rotate the brake light switch until the gap between the switch housing and the brake pedal lever reaches the nominal value. Then secure the switch with the lock nut.
  • Gap "A": 0.5-1.0 mm

Gap «A»: 0.5-1.0 mm


If the gap is not within specifications, adjust it.

2. Adjust the gap "A" between the brake light switch and the pedal travel limiter.
  • a) Loosen the lock nut.
  • b) Adjust the gap by rotating the brake light switch.
  • c) Tighten the lock nut.

3. Check the free travel of the brake pedal.
  • Free travel "B" of the brake pedal: 3-8 mm

Free travel «B» of the brake pedal: 3-8 mm


4. Check the height of the brake pedal.
  • a) Check the height of the pedal in the free position.
  • Brake pedal height in free position: 176±0.3 mm
  • b) Start the engine, press the pedal with a force of 500 N and check the height of the pedal when pressed.
  • Brake pedal height when pressed at 500 N force: 75 mm or more
  • c) Check the height of the pedal when fully depressed and without brake fluid.
  • Brake pedal height when fully depressed and without brake fluid: 44 mm or more
