Removing and installing the brake pedal.
1 - brake light switch, 2 - return spring, 3 - brake pedal, 4 - washer, 5 - cotter pin.
Removal
1. Remove the lower instrument panel trim (see chapter "Body").
2. Remove the brake pedal return spring.
3. Remove the steering support member.
4. Remove the brake light switch and disconnect the clutch pedal switch connector (models with cruise control).
5. Remove the pin and remove the fork axle.
6. Disconnect the retainer and remove the washer from the right side of the brake pedal bracket.
7. Loosen the brake booster mounting nut and remove the right side of the brake pedal bracket.
8. Remove the brake pedal.
9. Remove the bushings and washer.
10. Loosen the bolt and remove the left side of the pedal bracket.
Examination
1. Check the bushings for wear.
2. Check the brake pedal for deformation (bending and twisting).
3. Check the brake pedal return spring for damage.
Installation
1. The brake pedal is installed in the reverse order of removal; the tightening torques for the bolts and nuts are indicated in the assembly drawing "Removing and installing the brake pedal".
2. Please pay attention to the following points during installation.
- a) Apply grease to the inner surface of the bushings.
- Lubricant chassis grease: SAE J310, NLGI No.0

- b) Apply grease to the pin and washer.
- Grease for wheel bearings: SAE J310, NLGI No.2
