Note:
- After any work involving air entering the brake system, bleed it.
- Perform bleeding to correctly remove air from the brake hydraulic system, fill the ABS hydraulic unit, brake system lines and the master brake cylinder with brake fluid.
- Do not press the brake pedal when bleeding the brake system.
- The bleeding procedure is the same for each wheel brake. Bleed in the order shown in the figure.
Caution: Do not allow brake fluid to come into contact with painted surfaces. If brake fluid does come into contact with a painted surface, wash it off immediately.
1. Remove the brake fluid reservoir cap and fill the reservoir with brake fluid.
- Brake fluid type: SAE J 1703 or FMVSS 116 DOT3 or DOT4
2. Connect the hose to the bleed nipple of the disc brake caliper or the working brake cylinder of the drum brake. Lower the free end of the hose into a container half filled with clean brake fluid.
3. Connect the tester to the diagnostic connector located under the instrument panel.
4. Turn on the ignition, select the appropriate tester menu item and follow the instructions on the tester display.
Caution: It is necessary to strictly follow the tester's instructions regarding the maximum permissible operating time of the ABS pump electric motor (60 seconds) to prevent burnout of the electric motor winding.
- a) Select "HYUNDAI VEHICLE DIAGNOSIS" (vehicle diagnostics).
- b) Select the name of the car model - "SONATA".
- c) Select the "ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM" option.
- d) Select the "AIR BLEEDING MODE" option.
- d) Press the "YES" button of the tester to turn on the pump motor and electromagnetic valves.
- e) Wait 60 seconds before starting the pumping operation (otherwise the pump motor may be damaged).
5. Press the brake pedal several times and then loosen the bleed screw until the brake fluid starts to flow out. Tighten the bleed screw when air bubbles stop appearing along with the brake fluid.
7. Tighten the bleed screw.
- Tightening torque: 7-13 Nm
