Fig. 6.4. Brake fluid reservoir
Remove the brake fluid reservoir cap and fill the reservoir with brake fluid (Fig. 6.4).
Caution: If brake fluid comes into contact with painted surfaces, wipe off the spilled fluid immediately.
Note: Do not press the brake pedal while bleeding the brake system under pressure.
Attach a clear vinyl hose to the bleed nipple on a disc brake caliper or a drum brake master cylinder. Place the free end of the hose in a container of clean brake fluid.
Press the brake pedal several times.
Fig. 6.5. Removing air from the brake hydraulic drive
Keeping the pedal fully depressed, loosen the bleed screw until brake fluid begins to flow out. Then tighten the bleed screw (Fig. 6.5).
Repeat bleeding until air bubbles stop appearing along with the brake fluid.
Tighten the bleed screw.
Tightening torque of the bleed nipple: 7–9 Nm.
Fig. 6.6. Sequence of air removal from the brake hydraulic drive
Perform the above bleeding procedure for each wheel brake in the sequence shown in Figure 6.6.
