Make sure the manual control cable is adjusted correctly by doing the following:
1. Apply the parking and service brakes.
2. Set the gear shift lever to the "R" position.
3. Turn the ignition key to the "ST" (start) position.
4. Slowly move the gearshift lever upward until it clicks into the "P" position slot. If the starter operates when the lever is locked, the "P" position is correct.
5. Then slowly move the gearshift lever to the "N" position in the same way as in the previous operation. If the starter operates when the gearshift lever is locked in the "N" position, the "N" position is correct.
6. Make sure that the lever does not stop between the PRND positions.
7. The manual control cable is adjusted correctly if, as described above, the starter engages when the lever is in the "P" and "N" positions.
