Pic. 1.134. Manual transmission shift modes
The car's manual transmission has a standard gearshift pattern. It is depicted on the gear lever knob. All forward gears are synchronized and therefore easy to engage.
Note. When engaging reverse gear, after the vehicle has come to a complete stop, hold the gearshift lever for at least 3 s in the neutral position. Then move the lever to the reverse gear position.
Attention! When shifting the lever from the 5th gear position to the 4th gear position, be careful not to shift into second gear by mistake. Such a sudden gear change can cause an excessive increase in engine speed (tachometer needle in the red zone). Exceeding the maximum allowable engine speed can result in engine damage.
Clutch use
Before engaging a gear, fully depress the clutch pedal and then slowly release it. Pressing the clutch pedal again must be done only after it has fully returned to its original position. Do not keep your foot on the clutch pedal while the vehicle is moving. This can lead to clutch disc wear. Do not use the clutch to hold the vehicle on a slope, use the parking brake to do this. Avoid abrupt and repeated release of the clutch pedal.
For economical driving, it is recommended to change gears in the gears indicated in table 1.5 speeds.
Proper driving techniques
Do not roll downhill in neutral: this is very dangerous. Always keep the gear on.
Do not have a driving habit that requires you to brake hard. This leads to overheating of the brakes and loss of their efficiency. On long descents, engine braking should be applied to prevent overheating of the brakes (including low gears).
Slow down the vehicle slightly when shifting down. This will help prevent over-revving the engine and prevent engine damage.
Reduce vehicle speed in strong crosswinds. This will improve its handling.
Before engaging reverse gear, make sure the vehicle is at a complete stop. Otherwise, the gearbox may be damaged. To move the lever to the reverse position, first depress the clutch pedal, move the lever to neutral, wait 3 seconds, and then move the lever to the reverse position.
Use caution when driving on slippery roads and when braking, accelerating and shifting gears. On slippery roads, sudden changes in vehicle speed can cause loss of traction and control of the vehicle.
Attention! Loss of control of the vehicle at high speeds greatly increases the risk of the vehicle rolling over.
Attention! Loss of control often occurs when two or more wheels go off the road and the driver tries to get the car back on the road.
Attention! If the vehicle has left the track, avoid turning the steering wheel sharply. Instead, slow down your vehicle before re-entering the road.
