Pic. 1.181. Manual transmission shift pattern
The gearshift pattern is shown on the gear lever knob. All forward gears are synchronized and therefore easy to engage.
To engage reverse gear, move the gear lever to the position «R», having previously pulled the foot against erroneous gear engagement.
Note. When engaging reverse gear after the vehicle has come to a complete stop, hold the gear lever for at least 3 seconds in the neutral position. Then move the lever to the reverse gear position.
Note. In cold weather, the lubricant in the gearbox can harden and shifting gears can be difficult until it warms up. This is normal and will not damage the transmission.
Note. If the vehicle is at a complete stop and 1st or reverse gear is «R» are difficult to turn on, move the gearshift lever to the position «N» («Neutral») and release the clutch pedal. Depress the clutch pedal again and move the gearshift lever to position 1 or «R».
Note. While the car is moving, do not keep your hand constantly on the gearshift lever, because. this can lead to premature wear of the yoke of the yoke of the gearbox.
Attention! When shifting the lever from the 5th gear position to the 4th gear position, be careful not to shift into 2nd gear by mistake. Such a sudden gear change can cause an excessive increase in engine speed (tachometer needle in the red zone). Exceeding the maximum allowable engine speed may result in engine damage.,
Clutch use
Before engaging a gear, fully depress the clutch pedal and then slowly release it. Pressing the clutch pedal again must be done only after it has fully returned to its original position. Do not keep your foot on the clutch pedal while the vehicle is moving. This can lead to clutch disc wear. Do not use the clutch to hold the vehicle on a slope. To do this, use the parking brake. Avoid abrupt and repeated release of the clutch pedal.
For economical driving, it is recommended to change gears at the speeds indicated in the table.
Proper driving techniques
Do not roll downhill in neutral. It is very dangerous. Always keep the gear on.
Do not have a driving habit that requires you to brake hard. This leads to overheating of the brakes and loss of their efficiency. On long descents, engine braking should be applied to prevent overheating of the brakes (including low gears).
Slow down the vehicle slightly when shifting down. This will help prevent over-revving the engine, which could damage the engine.
Reduce vehicle speed in strong crosswinds. This will improve its handling.
Make sure the vehicle is at a complete stop before engaging reverse gear. Otherwise, the gearbox may be damaged. To move the lever to the reverse position, first depress the clutch pedal, move the lever to neutral, wait 3 seconds, and then move the lever to the reverse position.
Be especially careful when driving on slippery roads. Be especially careful when braking, accelerating and shifting gears. On slippery roads, sudden changes in vehicle speed can cause the vehicle to lose traction and control of the vehicle.
