Pic. 1.182. Automatic transmission selector lever
The highly efficient automatic transmission has four forward gears and one reverse gear. Gear shifting is carried out automatically depending on the position of the selector. The selector lever has two slots: the main slot and the slot for manual shifting.
There are four positions in the main slot for moving the gear selector.
Note. Depress the brake pedal while shifting the gearbox.
Note. The switch lever should switch freely.
Note. During vehicle break-in or immediately after connecting the wire to the battery terminal, gear changes may not be as smooth. This does not mean a malfunction in the gearbox. Gear shifting will become smooth after several shifts in automatic mode (electronic control unit for automatic transmission).
Attention! While the vehicle is moving, do not move the selector lever to the position «R» or «R».
The indicator lamps on the instrument panel are designed to indicate the position of the automatic transmission selector, and one of these lamps lights up when the ignition key is turned to position «ON» («On»). When the selector is in position «D» («Movement», main gear) The indicator lamp for the currently engaged gear lights up green.
Selector position assignments

«R» - Parking lot.
Use this position to hold the vehicle in place while parking or starting the engine. When parking the car, apply the parking brake and move the selector to the position «R» («Parking»).
Attention! Do not move the selector to position «R» («Parking»), until the vehicle comes to a complete stop. Failure to follow this rule may result in damage to the automatic transmission.
«R» - Reverse.
Use this position to drive in reverse. Move the selector lever to position «R» («Reverse») only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop.
«N» – Neutral position.
In this selector position, the automatic transmission is disabled. It is possible to start the engine in this position, but this is not recommended unless the engine has stalled while driving
«D» - Movement.
This mode is used for driving, one of four / five gears is automatically switched on.
Manual shift mode («Sports mode»)
Pic. 1.184. Manual shift mode
Regardless of whether the vehicle is in motion or stationary, the transition to manual mode of gear shifting is made by moving the selector of the automatic transmission from the position «D» («Movement») into the slot for manual gear selection. to return to mode «D», you must move the selector back to the main slot. In manual gearshift mode, it is possible to quickly shift the latter by moving the selector back or forward. Unlike a manual transmission, manual mode («Sports mode») allows you to shift gears while pressing the accelerator pedal.
UP (+): move the selector forward once, this will shift into overdrive.
DOWN (–): move the selector back once, the gear will be downshifted.
TRANSITION THROUGH THE GEAR: quickly moving the selector twice allows you to skip one gear when shifting, that is, to change from 1st gear to 3rd, or from 3rd to 1st.
Attention! In manual mode, there is no automatic upshifting. The driver must himself engage the overdrive in accordance with the road conditions and at the same time make sure that the engine speed does not exceed the maximum permissible value (the tachometer needle must be below the red zone).
Attention! In order to protect the engine, the gearbox shifts up automatically when the engine speed reaches the red zone.
Attention! Fast double shift of the selector back (Down) allows you to skip one gear when shifting, that is, go from 3rd gear to 1st, from 4th to 2nd or from 5th to 3rd. Because heavy engine braking and/or rapid acceleration can cause loss of wheel traction, downshifting should be done carefully according to vehicle speed.
Attention! In manual shift mode, only one of the four/five forward gears can be selected. To move the car in reverse or in a parking lot, move the selector to the position «R» («Reverse») or «R» («Parking») respectively.
In manual shift mode, when the vehicle speed decreases, downshifting occurs automatically. When the car comes to a stop, 1st gear is automatically engaged.
To ensure the required vehicle dynamics and safety, the system may not perform some gear shifts when the selector is moved.
When starting off on a slippery road, move the automatic transmission selector forward to «+» (Up). In this case, the 2nd gear is switched on, which makes it easier to start off on slippery roads. Move selector to position «–» (Down) shifts to 1st gear.
To ensure smooth and safe operation before moving the selector out of position «R» (Parking) or «N» (neutral position) into reverse gear, fully depress the brake pedal.
To move the selector from position «R» («Parking») to any other position, the ignition key must be in position «ON» («On») and the brake pedal must be fully depressed.
Translate selector from positions «R» («Reverse»), «N» (neutral position), «D» («Movement», main gear) into position «R» («Parking») you can always. In this case, the car must be completely stopped so as not to damage the gearbox.
Attention! While the vehicle is moving, do not move the selector lever to the position «R» or «R».
Attention! Do not depress the accelerator pedal when the transmission is in reverse or one of the forward gears with the brake pedal depressed.
Attention! Always depress the brake pedal when shifting the selector from positions «R» («Parking») or «N» (neutral position) into the provisions «R» («Reverse») or «D» («Movement», main gear).
Attention! Don't use position «R» («Parking») instead of a parking brake. Even when leaving the vehicle for a short time, always apply the parking brake, move the selector to the «R» («Parking») and turn off the ignition. Never leave the vehicle unattended with the engine running.
Attention! When pulling away on a steep hill, the vehicle may roll backwards, to prevent this from happening, when pulling away in sport mode, move the selector to position «2».
Attention! Regularly check the fluid level in the automatic transmission and add fluid if necessary.
Unlocking the automatic transmission selector (optional equipment)
Pic. 1.185. Unlocking the automatic transmission selector
If the automatic transmission selector is not translated from the position «R» («Parking») to any other position when the brake pedal is fully depressed and the key in the ignition switch is turned to the position «ON», do the following. Remove the cover on the console and with a thin object, such as a flathead screwdriver, press the selector release button. Then, pressing the brake pedal, move the selector to the desired position. The selector release button will automatically return to its original position after the transmission is moved from position «R» (parking). Then install the cover on the console in its place.
Proper driving techniques
Don't move the selector out of position «N» or «R» to any other position with the accelerator pedal depressed.
While the vehicle is moving, do not move the selector lever to the position «R».
Before moving the selector to position «R», make sure the vehicle has come to a complete stop.
Do not roll downhill in neutral. It is very dangerous. Always keep the gear engaged while the vehicle is in motion.
Do not have a driving habit that requires you to brake hard. This leads to overheating of the brakes and loss of their efficiency. On long descents, engine braking should be applied to prevent overheating of the brakes (including low gears).
Slow down the vehicle slightly when shifting down. Otherwise, the downshift may not engage.
Always use the parking brake. Don't rely on setting the selector to «R» to prevent vehicle movement.
Be especially careful when driving on slippery roads. Be especially careful when braking, accelerating and shifting gears. On slippery roads, sudden changes in vehicle speed can cause the vehicle to lose traction and control of the vehicle.
The optimum economical driving style, which makes the most efficient use of engine performance, is one in which the driver gently depresses and releases the accelerator pedal.
