Withdrawal
1. Disconnect the suction hose and PCV hose (forced crankcase ventilation).
2. Remove the water pump pulley and crankshaft pulley.
3. Remove the toothed belt cover.
4. Loosen the toothed belt tensioner pulley and temporarily tighten it.
5. Remove the toothed belt from the camshaft sprocket.
6. Loosen the cover bolts and then remove it.
7. Remove the ignition coil assembly.
8. Loosen the cylinder head cover bolts and then remove it.
9. Remove the camshaft sprocket.
10. Remove the camshaft bearing caps and toothed belt chain.
11. Remove the camshaft.
12. Remove the hydraulic clearance compensator.
Examination
Camshafts
1. Check the camshaft journals for wear. If the journals are worn, replace the camshaft.
2. Check the lobes of the cams for damage. If they are damaged or badly worn, replace the camshaft.
Cam Height
Inlet valve:
- Standard - 43.2484 mm
- Limit - 42.7484 mm
Exhaust valve:
- Standard - 43.8489 mm
- Limit - 43.3489 mm
3. Check each bearing for damage. If its surface is excessively worn, replace the cylinder head assembly Or the camshaft bearing cap.
- Camshaft axial clearance - 0.1-0.2 mm
Stuffing box (camshaft toe)
1. Check the seal edges for wear. If worn, replace the seal.
2. Check the contact surface of the camshaft with the edges of the oil seal. Replace camshaft if worn.
Timing belt chain
Check the bearings and chain plates for wear. Replace the chain if severely worn.
Installation
1. Install the hydraulic lash adjuster.
2. Align the mark on the camshaft chain with the mark on the intake camshaft sprocket and the other chain mark with the mark on the exhaust camshaft sprocket.
3. Install the camshaft after you lubricate its necks with engine oil.
4. Install bearing caps. Follow the markings on the caps to identify the intake and exhaust camshafts
- I: Intake camshaft
- E: Exhaust camshaft
5. Tighten the bearing caps evenly in 2-3 steps to the correct torque.
Tightening torque: Bearing cap bolt - 12-14 Nm
6. Using a special tool, a device for installing the camshaft oil seal (09221-21000), press in the oil seal. Engine oil must be applied to the outer surface of the oil seal.
7. Install the camshaft sprocket and tighten the bolts to the required torque.
Tightening torque: Camshaft sprocket bolt - 80-100 Nm
8. Align the alignment marks on the crankshaft and camshaft sprockets. The piston of cylinder #1 should be at top dead center on the compression stroke.
9. Establish a cover of a head of the block of cylinders.
Tightening torque: Head cover bolts - 8-10 Nm (80-100 kg/cm).
10. Install spark plug cables, ignition coil cover assembly.
11. Install the toothed belt and tighten the tensioner pulley.
12. Install the toothed belt cover.
13. Install the water pump pulley and crankshaft pulley.
