Removal
1. Disconnect the suction hose and PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) hose.
2. Remove the water pump pulley and crankshaft pulley.
3. Remove the timing belt cover.
4. Loosen the timing belt tensioner pulley and temporarily tighten it.
5. Remove the timing belt from the camshaft sprocket.

6. Loosen the cover bolts and then remove the cover.
7. Remove the ignition coil assembly.
8. Loosen the cylinder head cover bolts and then remove the cylinder head cover.
9. Remove the camshaft sprocket.
10. Remove the camshaft bearing caps and timing belt chain.
11. Remove the camshaft.
12. Remove the hydraulic clearance compensator.
Examination
Camshafts
1. Check the camshaft journals for wear. If the journals are heavily worn, replace the camshaft.
2. Check the cam lobe for damage. If damaged or badly worn, replace the camshaft.
Cam height
Inlet valve:
- Standard - 43.2484 mm
- Limit - 42.7484 mm
Exhaust valve:
- Standard - 43.8489 mm
- Limit - 43.3489 mm
3. Check each bearing for damage. If its surface is excessively worn, replace the cylinder head assembly or camshaft bearing cap.
- Axial clearance of the camshaft - 0.1-0.2 mm
Oil seal (camshaft nose)
1. Check the edges of the seal for wear. If worn, replace the seal.
2. Check the contact surface of the camshaft with the edges of the seal. Replace the camshaft if it is at the wear stage.
Timing belt chain
Check the chain bushings and plates for wear. Replace the chain if it is heavily worn.

Installation
1. Install the hydraulic clearance compensator.
2. Align the mark on the camshaft chain with the mark on the camshaft sprocket for the intake valves, and the other mark on the chain with the mark on the camshaft sprocket for the exhaust valves.

3. Install the camshaft after lubricating its journals with engine oil.
4. Install the bearing caps. Observe the markings on the caps to identify the intake and exhaust camshafts
- I: Intake camshaft
- E: Exhaust camshaft

5. Tighten the bearing caps evenly in 2-3 steps to the required torque.
Tightening torque: Bearing cover bolt - 12-14 Nm
6. Using a special tool, a device for installing a camshaft oil seal (09221-21000), press the seal in. The outer surface of the seal should be coated with engine oil.

7. Install the camshaft sprocket and tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: Camshaft sprocket bolt - 80-100 Nm
8. Align the timing marks on the crankshaft and camshaft sprockets. The piston of cylinder No.1 should be at the top dead center of the compression stroke.

9. Install the cylinder head cover.
Tightening torque: Head cover bolts - 8-10 Nm (80-100 kg/cm).
10. Install the spark plug cables, ignition coil cover assembly.
11. Install the timing belt and tighten the tensioner pulley.
12. Install the timing belt cover.
13. Install the water pump pulley and crankshaft pulley.
