- pull off the road and stop the car in a safe place;
- move the selector lever to the "P" ("Park") position (automatic transmission) or move the gearshift lever to the neutral position and apply the parking brake. If the air conditioner is running, turn it off;
- if coolant is leaking from under the vehicle or steam is coming from under the hood, turn off the engine. Do not open the hood until coolant has stopped leaking from under the vehicle or steam has stopped coming from under the hood. If there is no visible sign of coolant or steam leaking, leave the engine running and make sure the radiator fan is running. If it is not running, turn off the engine;
- check the condition and tension of the water pump drive belt. If the belt is OK, check for coolant leaks from the radiator, cooling system hoses, or from under the car. (If the air conditioner was on, cold water may drip from it after stopping - this is normal);
Warning: When the engine is running, keep hands, long hair and clothing away from moving parts such as the radiator fan and drive belts to prevent injury.
- if the drive belt or water pump is faulty, or there is a coolant leak, turn off the engine immediately and contact your nearest authorized Hyundai dealer for assistance;
Warning! Do not open the radiator cap while the engine is hot. Boiling coolant may be ejected and you may be burned.
- if you cannot find the cause of overheating, wait until the engine coolant temperature returns to normal. If there is a coolant leak, carefully remove the radiator cap and add water to the half-mark of the coolant level in the expansion tank;
- monitor closely for further signs of overheating. If engine overheating occurs again, contact your authorized Hyundai dealer for assistance.
Warning! A significant drop in coolant level indicates a leak in the cooling system. Contact an authorized Hyundai dealer as soon as possible for inspection.
