- turn off the road and stop the car in a safe place;
- move selector to position "R" ("Parking") (Automatic transmission) or move the shift lever to neutral and apply the parking brake. If the air conditioner is running, turn it off;
- If coolant is leaking from under the vehicle or steam is coming out from under the hood, turn off the engine. Do not open the hood until coolant stops flowing from under the vehicle or steam stops coming out from under the hood. If there are no visible signs of coolant or steam leaks, keep the engine running and check that the cooling system radiator fan is running. If it does not work, turn off the engine;
- check the condition and tension of the water pump drive belt. If the belt is OK, check for coolant leaks from the radiator, coolant hoses, or from under the vehicle. (If the air conditioner has been turned on, then cold water may drip from it after stopping - this is normal);
Warning! Keep hands, long hair, and clothing away from moving parts such as the cooling fan and drive belts while the engine is running to prevent injury.
- if the drive belt or water pump is faulty, or there is a coolant leak, immediately turn off the engine and contact the nearest authorized Hyundai dealer for help;
Warning! Do not open the radiator cap while the engine is hot. Boiling coolant may be released and you may be burned.
- if you cannot find the cause of overheating, wait until the engine coolant temperature returns to normal. If there is a coolant leak, carefully remove the radiator cap and add water to half the liquid level mark in the expansion tank;
- watch closely for further signs of overheating. If the engine overheats again, contact an authorized Hyundai dealer for help.
Warning! A severe drop in coolant level indicates a leak in the cooling system. It is necessary to contact an authorized Hyundai dealer as soon as possible for verification.
