The car is equipped with an additional passive safety system (airbags) SRS. The presence of this system can be identified by the inscription "SRS AIR BAG" on the cover of the airbag in the steering wheel and on the panel trim on the front passenger side above the glove box. The SRS system consists of airbags installed under the pads in the middle of the steering wheel and in the panel on the front passenger side above the glove box. The task of the additional passive safety system SRS is to provide additional safety for the driver and / or front passenger in addition to the seat belt system in frontal impacts of medium or high force.

Warning: Be sure to read the SRS information on the labels located on the back of the driver's side sun visor and inside the glove compartment.

Warning! As the name of the SRS system indicates, this system is designed to complement and work together with the three-point seat belts of the driver and front passenger and is not a substitute for them. Therefore, you must always wear your seat belts while in the car. Moreover, the airbags are only deployed in very strong impacts, when the impact occurs at an angle of 30° from the longitudinal axis of the car and will not deploy in side and rear impacts or when the car is rolled over. In addition, the airbags are deployed only once. Therefore, it is necessary to always wear your seat belts.

Warning! The driver must sit back as far as possible while maintaining control of the vehicle. If you sit too close to an airbag, it can cause serious injury or even death if it deploys.

Warning: Do not place any objects on or near the airbag in the steering wheel, instrument panel, or dashboard above the glove box because such objects may cause injury if the airbag deploys during an impact.

Warning! If the airbag has deployed, it must be replaced by an authorized Hyundai dealer.

Warning! Do not attempt to repair or disconnect SRS wiring or other components. This may result in injury due to accidental deployment of the air bags or incapacitation of the SRS system.

Warning! Do not install a child restraint system in the front passenger seat. Children could be seriously injured in the event of an accident and the airbag deploying.

Warning! Do not allow children to ride in the front passenger seat. If older children can ride in the front seat, make sure they are properly restrained and that the seat is moved as far back as possible.

Warning! To ensure maximum protection in all types of collisions, all passengers, including the driver, must wear seat belts at all times, regardless of whether the seat has an airbag, to minimize the risk of injury in the event of an accident. Do not lean too close to the airbag when the vehicle is moving.

Warning! To provide protection in a collision, the SRS airbags inflate with great force. If the occupant is not wearing a seat belt, the airbag may strike the occupant with great force, possibly causing serious injury.

Functions and elements of the SRS system

The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) includes the following components:

(The material is republished from the web portal: «HYUNDAIBOOK»)
  • driver's front airbag assembly;
  • front passenger front airbag assembly;
  • knee support;
  • sRS system warning light;
  • sRS electronic control unit.

The SRS electronic control unit continuously monitors all system components when the ignition switch is in the "ON" position and determines whether a frontal or near-frontal impact has been severe enough to deploy the air bags.

The SRS indicator light in the instrument cluster will flash for approximately 6 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position or the engine is started, after which the light should go out.

The airbags are located in the center of the steering wheel and in the panel opposite the front passenger seat above the storage compartment. When the SRS electronic control unit detects a frontal impact of sufficient force, it automatically deploys the airbags.

When the airbags deploy, the airbag, which expands as it inflates with gas, knocks out the cover, which breaks along a special seam.

A fully deployed airbag, in combination with a properly fastened seat belt, slows the forward movement of the driver or front passenger, thereby reducing the risk of injury to the head and chest.

Warning! When placing a container with liquid air freshener in the car, do not place it near the dashboard or on the surface of the dashboard trim. If liquid leaks from the container with air freshener and gets on the dashboard, dashboard trim or ventilation system deflector, it can damage these parts.

Warning! When the SRS airbag deploys, a sharp, loud bang is heard and some smoke and dust (powder) are released. These phenomena are not dangerous and are normal. However, the dust (powder) generated when the airbags are inflated can cause skin irritation. After the airbags deploy, be sure to wash your face and hands with soap and warm water.

Warning! The SRS system operates only when the ignition switch is in the "ON" position. If the SRS indicator light does not come on or comes on after flashing for approximately 6 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position, after the engine is started, or comes on while the vehicle is being driven, this indicates a malfunction in the SRS system. Have the SRS system checked immediately by your authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Warning! Before replacing a fuse or disconnecting the negative battery cable, turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" position or remove the key from the ignition switch. Do not remove or replace fuses related to the SRS system with the ignition switch in the "ON" position. Failure to observe this precaution will cause the SRS warning light to illuminate.

Side airbag

The side airbag is located on the side of the front seatbacks. The purpose of this airbag is to provide additional protection for the driver and/or front passenger in addition to the protection provided by the seat belts. These airbags deploy only in some side impacts, depending on the severity, angle, speed, and location of the impact. Side airbags do not deploy in all side impacts.

Warning! For best side airbag protection and to avoid injury, front seat occupants must sit upright with their seat belts properly fastened. The driver's hands should rest on the steering wheel at the 9:00 and 15:00 o'clock positions. The passenger's hands should rest on their lap.

Warning: Do not use additional seat covers as this may reduce or eliminate the effectiveness of the system.

Warning: Do not install accessories on or near the side airbag.

Warning: Do not apply excessive force to the side of the seat.

Warning: Do not place any objects on or between you and the air bag.

Warning! Do not place any objects (such as an umbrella or bag) between the front door and the seat. Such objects may be dangerous and may cause injury if the side airbag deploys.

Warning: To avoid unexpected deployment of the side airbag, which could result in injury, avoid striking the side airbag sensor with the ignition on.

Supplemental Restraint System SRS Maintenance

The SRS supplemental passive restraint system is a non-serviceable system and does not have any components or parts that you can safely service yourself. The SRS supplemental passive restraint system as a whole should be checked by an authorized Hyundai dealer every 10 years from the date of vehicle production.

Any maintenance work on the SRS supplemental passive safety system (airbags) or parts in its vicinity should only be performed by an authorized Hyundai dealer. Do not allow anyone other than an authorized Hyundai dealer to service, inspect or repair any components and wiring of the SRS supplemental passive safety system, or to touch or remove these components.

Warning. Never install a child safety seat in the front passenger seat equipped with an airbag with the child's back to the vehicle's direction of travel.

Warning! Modifications to the SRS components or wiring, including the addition of stickers to the air bag covers, may adversely affect the operation of the SRS and could result in serious injury.

Warning! Use only a soft, dry cloth or a cloth slightly dampened with clean water to clean the air bag covers. Cleaning solutions or cleaners may adversely affect the air bag covers and their proper deployment.

Warning: Do not place any objects on or near the air bag modules on the steering wheel, instrument panel, or panel opposite the front passenger seat above the glove box, as they may prevent the air bag from deploying properly and may themselves cause injury if thrown into the passenger compartment with great force when the air bag inflates.

Warning! The SRS supplemental passive restraint system is designed for a single use. Once deployed, the air bags cannot be used again. They must be replaced immediately, and the entire air bag system must be checked by an authorized Hyundai dealer.

Warning! Any work on or disconnection of the SRS wiring or other SRS components may result in sudden inflation of the air bags or failure of the air bags to function, which may ultimately result in serious injury.

Warning! If your car has been flooded above the floor level, do not attempt to start the engine; have your vehicle towed to an authorized Hyundai dealer.
