General information
The airbag of the passive safety system is designed to reduce the risk of injury to the driver/passenger in the event of a frontal collision of the vehicle with an obstacle.
The system includes:
- 1) an airbag with a charge igniter, when burned, the airbag instantly fills with gas and deploys, thereby protecting the driver/passenger from collision during a sharp deceleration of the car;
- 2) control module for the operation of this system with a device that measures negative acceleration (slowdown) car and issuing, if necessary, a signal to trigger a pyrocharge;
- 3) wiring and connectors.
Warning. In view of the danger that arises from unauthorized operation of the system, when the charge ignites and the airbag instantly deploys, flying out of the steering column, maintenance of this system should only be carried out by trained personnel, taking special precautions!
Failure to carry out consecutive maintenance operations may result in the sudden inflating of the airbag during these operations and a serious accident.
Be sure to follow these requirements:
- 1. Operation should begin after 30 seconds or more has elapsed since the ignition was switched to the lock position and after the negative (-) battery terminal if it is disconnected. (The air bag system is equipped with a backup power supply so that it starts working within 30 seconds after disconnecting the negative (-) battery outlet, while the airbag can be triggered). When the negative is disconnected (-) battery output, the watch movement memory and sound-producing systems are switched off. Therefore, before performing work, record the stored information using the memory system. Then, when the job is done, reset the system as before and adjust the clockwork.
- 2. Defects in the airbag system are very difficult to recognize; diagnostic codes become especially important for obtaining information related to troubleshooting and troubleshooting. Always check for diagnostic codes before disconnecting the battery during airbag troubleshooting.
- 3. Never use airbag replacement parts from another car. When replacing parts, use only new spare parts.
- 4. Never attempt to disassemble and repair the airbag modules, the auxiliary system control module, the clock spring, and the airbag harness for reuse.
- 5. After the installation work of the air bag system is completed, perform a functional test of the warning indicator of this auxiliary restraint system.
Control lamps of the control module
There are conditions under which the control module does not function and thus lamp operation cannot be controlled. In such cases, it is fed by the circuit, regardless of the module, and at the same time periodically turns on.
Clockwork spring
The steering wheel must be properly aligned with the steering column with the clock spring in the neutral position; in other words, cable disconnections and other system malfunctions can occur.
Air cushion kit
1. When removing an airbag or when installing a new one, it must be placed with the surface facing up.
2. Never measure the resistance of the airbag igniter. (This can cause the air bag to collapse, which is very dangerous).
3. When using electric welding, disconnect the connector of the airbag system (red and 2 pins) under the steering column near the multifunction switch before doing any work.
System control module
The control module is installed in accordance with the arrow on the housing, directed towards the front of the vehicle.
