General information
The passive safety system airbag is designed to reduce the risk of injury to the driver/passenger in the event of a frontal collision of the vehicle with an obstacle.
The system includes:
- 1) an inflatable cushion with a charge igniter, upon combustion of which the cushion instantly fills with gas and deploys, thereby protecting the driver/passenger from impact during sudden deceleration of the vehicle;
- 2) a control module for the operation of this system with a device that measures the negative acceleration (deceleration) of the vehicle and, if necessary, issues a signal to trigger the pyrotechnic charge;
- 3) wiring and connectors.
Warning: Due to the danger that arises from unauthorized activation of the system, when the charge ignites and the airbag instantly deploys, flying out of the steering column, maintenance of this system should only be carried out by trained personnel, taking special precautions!
Failure to perform sequential maintenance operations may result in sudden inflation of the airbag while these operations are being performed, resulting in a serious accident.
Please make sure to follow these requirements:
- 1. Work should be started after 30 seconds or more have passed since the ignition switch is turned to the lock position and after disconnecting the negative (-) terminal of the battery, if it is disconnected. (The air bag system is equipped with a backup power source, so its operation starts within 30 seconds after the negative (-) terminal of the battery is disconnected, and the air bag can be deployed.) When the negative (-) terminal of the battery is disconnected, the memory device of the clock mechanism and the sound-producing systems are turned off. Therefore, before performing work, record the stored information using the memory system. Then, when the work is finished, reset the system as before and adjust the clock mechanism.
- 2. Defects in the airbag system are very difficult to detect; diagnostic codes become especially important for troubleshooting information. Always check diagnostic codes before disconnecting the battery when troubleshooting an airbag.
- 3. Never use spare parts for the airbag from another car. When replacing parts, use only new spare parts.
- 4. Never attempt to disassemble or repair the air bag modules, auxiliary system control module, clock spring or air bag mounting harness for the purpose of reusing them.
- 5. After the installation work of the air bag system is completed, check the operation of the warning indicator of this auxiliary passive restraint system.

Control module indicator lights
There are conditions under which the control module does not function and thus the lamp cannot be controlled. In such cases, it is fed by a circuit independent of the module and switches on periodically.

Clockwork spring
The steering wheel must be correctly adjusted to the steering column with the clock spring in the neutral position; in other words, cable disconnections and other system malfunctions may occur.

Inflatable pillow set
1. When removing an airbag or installing a new one, it must be placed with the surface facing upward.
2. Never measure the resistance of the airbag igniter. (This may cause the airbag to rupture, which is very dangerous.).
3. When using electric welding, disconnect the air bag system connector (red color and 2 pins) under the steering column near the multi-function switch before starting any work.
System control module
The control module is installed in accordance with the arrow on the housing, pointing towards the front of the vehicle.
