Warning!
- THE CHILD SEAT MUST BE INSTALLED IN THE REAR SEAT. It is not permitted to install a baby "bassinet" or a child seat in the front seat. If the front passenger air bag deploys in an accident, it could seriously injure the baby or child sitting in the bassinet or child seat.
- Children who are too small for child seats should be seated in the rear seats and secured with a combination lap/shoulder belt.
- Always make sure that the shoulder portion of the lap-shoulder side seat belt is positioned in the middle of the shoulder and does not touch the neck. Moving the child closer to the center of the car may help the belt fit better. The shoulder portion of the lap-shoulder side seat belt and the rear seat center lap belt should always be positioned as low and as tightly as possible.
- If the child seat cannot be properly secured with the seat belt, it is recommended to use a child seat pad to raise the child's seat height so that the child can be properly secured with the seat belt.
- Do not allow the child to stand on the seat or be carried in your arms.
- The use of child seats that are attached to the back of the seat is not permitted; such devices do not provide the necessary safety in the event of a traffic accident.
- Holding a child in your arms while the car is moving is unacceptable, the child may receive serious or even fatal injuries in the event of a traffic accident or sudden braking. Your hands will not replace a child seat, even if you are fastened with a seat belt.
Seat belt with pretensioner (vehicles without airbags)
In normal situations, a seat belt with a pretensioner works in the same way as a seat belt with an inertia locking mechanism. (The belt is locked in the position it is in when the car brakes suddenly. It will also be locked if you try to pull it out of the retractor too quickly.) However, in the event of a collision, the pretensioner instantly retracts the seat belt to firmly secure the occupant with the seat belt and to take up any slack in the belt.
Warning! When the seat belt pretensioner is activated, a small amount of smoke is released and a loud popping sound is heard. This popping sound is normal and not dangerous.
Warning! The pretensioner seat belt is specially designed to deploy only in the event of a moderate to severe impact and only once.
Warning! If the seat belt with pretensioner is activated, do not attempt to replace it yourself. This must be done only by an authorized Hyundai dealer.
Seat belt with pretensioner for vehicles with airbags
Your Hyundai is equipped with seat belts with pretensioners for the driver and front passenger. The purpose of such a belt is to ensure that the passenger is firmly secured in some cases during a frontal impact. The seat belt pretensioner can be activated separately, as well as together with the air bags in case of a frontal impact of sufficient force.
Front seat belts with pretensioners
A seat belt with a pretensioner works in the same way as a seat belt with an inertia retractor with an automatic locking mechanism. In the event of a sudden stop of the car, or when the passenger tries to pull the belt out too quickly, the retractor mechanism automatically locks the seat belt. However, in the case of a frontal impact of medium or severe force, the pretensioner seat belt instantly retracts the seat belt.
Location of components of the seat belt system with pretensioner:
1 – SRS indicator lamp;
2 – seat belt pretensioner assembly;
3 – SRS electronic control unit.
Warning! To achieve maximum effectiveness of the seat belt with pretensioner: the seat belt must be properly fastened; the seat belt must be adjusted correctly.
Warning! The driver and front passenger seat belts with pretensioners are designed to deploy in the event of a frontal impact of sufficient force. The seat belt pretensioners can deploy individually or together with the air bags in the event of a frontal impact of sufficient force. The seat belt pretensioners are designed to deploy in the event of a severe frontal impact, even if the seat belt is not fastened.
Warning! When the seat belt pretensioners are activated, a small amount of smoke is released and a loud bang is heard. These phenomena are normal and are not dangerous.
Warning! Although this smoke is not toxic, you should not inhale it because it may cause irritation, coughing, or suffocation if inhaled for a long time. Wash your face and hands thoroughly after the seat belt pretensioners have deployed.
Warning! Since the SRS air bag activation sensor is connected to the seat belt pretensioner circuit, the SRS warning lamp in the instrument cluster will flash for 6 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" or "ACC" position, after which it should go out.
Warning: If the seat belt pretensioners are not working properly, the indicator light will come on even if the SRS air bag system is in good condition.
You should have the vehicle checked by an authorized Hyundai dealer immediately if the SRS (air bag) indicator light does not come on when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" or "ACC" position, does not go out after approximately 6 seconds, or comes on while the vehicle is being driven.
Warning! Seat belt pretensioners are designed for one-time use. Once the seat belt pretensioners have deployed, they will not deploy again. All seat belts must be replaced after an accident, regardless of the type of seat belt.
Warning! After the seat belt pretensioner assembly is deployed, some parts of the pretensioner will be hot. Do not touch them for several minutes after the pretensioner is deployed.
Warning! Do not attempt to check or replace the seat belt pretensioner mechanisms yourself. This must be done by an authorized Hyundai dealer.
Warning: Do not strike the seat belt pretensioner assemblies.
Warning: Do not attempt to service or repair the pretensioner seat belt system yourself.
Warning! Failure to properly handle the seat belt pretensioner assembly, or to follow the instructions for not striking, modifying, inspecting, replacing, servicing, or repairing the seat belt pretensioner assembly may result in the belts not operating properly or accidentally deploying, causing serious injury.
Warning: Always fasten your seat belts before driving.
