Check the valve plates (especially graduation), whether they are burnt or have pitting corrosion. At the same time, inspect the saddles. If the damage is minor, the seats and valves can be lapped together using first a coarse grinding paste and then a finer one. You can first remove the deposits using sandpaper.



If the pitting corrosion is severe, the seats can be reground to fit new valves. If the saddles are very badly damaged, the saddle inserts will need to be treated or replaced. However, valves are damaged much more often than seats. Therefore, they usually take a new set of valves and regrind them to fit the seats.
