Valve guides — checking and replacing (Hyundai Elantra J1)

The clearance between the guide bushings and the valve stem is checked with an indicator or the diameters of the valve stem and the guide bushing hole are measured (see previous chapter).

If the gap between the stem and the valve guide is too large, the guide must be replaced.



After pressing out the guide bushings, ream the hole for the bushing to the required diameter.

Note: The bushings are replaced with larger bushings of repair size. Before installing the bushings, they must be soaked in engine oil for at least three hours.

New bushings (1) are driven in from the top side of the cylinder head using mandrels, maintaining a certain dimension (A).

After pressing in the guide bushings, it is necessary to bring their internal diameters to the nominal size using reamers.
