For stationary testing of valve tightness, a device is required.
Checking a typical cylinder head
To check for leaks, do the following:
- Clean the seats and valves thoroughly and place the cylinder head on a stand.
- Insert the valves into the corresponding guide bushings and close the spark plug holes with plugs.
- Place the device (2) in the position shown in the figure
- Press the lever (1) firmly and supply air with a rubber bulb until the pressure gauge shows a pressure of 50 kPa. No pressure drop should be observed within 10 seconds. If the pressure drops, i.e. there is an air leak, then it is necessary to grind the working chamfers of the valves and the seats on the cylinder head.
- The valves are removed from the cylinder head using tools.
