Checking the exhaust system for leaks (Hyundai Getz 1)

0
On vehicles with a regulated catalytic converter, a lack of tightness in the exhaust system connections before the oxygen concentration sensor can lead to the following malfunctions:
  • difficulty starting the engine;
  • the engine stops;
  • uneven engine idling;
  • jerks when accelerating.

Warning! Test condition - engine cold or hand temperature. Compressed air source is required for testing.

Start the engine and listen to the exhaust system with the engine running for exhaust leaks.

Stop the engine.

Insert the compressed air source (compressor) gun into the exhaust pipe and seal it with a rag.

Set the compressed air pressure to 6 bar. Turn on the gun.

Apply leak detection compound to the cylinder head/exhaust manifold, exhaust manifold/downpipe, downpipe/catalytic converter joints and check for bubbles.

Eliminate leaks in the exhaust system.
