Checking the technical condition
Exhaust manifold
Check the exhaust manifold for damage or cracks.
Exhaust manifold gasket
Check the exhaust manifold gasket for peeling or damage.
Inlet pipe and mufflers of the exhaust system: 1 – gasket of the inlet pipe of the mufflers; 2 – suspension cushion of the exhaust pipe; 3 – additional muffler; 4 – main muffler
Warning! Only remove and inspect exhaust system components when the system is cold.
Removal
Mounting flange of the main muffler to the additional muffler
Disconnect the main muffler from the additional one.
Remove the main muffler by disconnecting the suspension mounts.
Disconnect the additional muffler from the main muffler.
Remove the additional muffler by disconnecting the suspension cushion.
Disconnect the catalytic converter from the exhaust pipe.
Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the catalytic converter (on an engine running on unleaded gasoline) or from the exhaust manifold (on an engine running on leaded gasoline).
Unscrew the bolt of the muffler inlet pipe clamp and its mounting nuts.
Checking the technical condition
Check mufflers and pipes for corrosion and damage.
Check the suspension cushions and strap clamps for cracks and signs of aging.
Installation
Install the catalytic converter, exhaust pipe, sub-muffler and main muffler in the order listed and temporarily secure them.
Tighten the fasteners of the exhaust system components, making sure that they do not touch the body.
Cars with engines with a working volume of 1.5 and 1.6 liters
Exhaust system components located in the engine compartment: 1 – exhaust manifold gasket; 2 – exhaust manifold; 3 – oxygen concentration sensor; 4 – catalytic converter; 5 – heat-protective casing of the exhaust manifold
Inlet pipe and mufflers of the exhaust system: 1 – gasket of the inlet pipe of the mufflers; 2 – suspension cushions of the exhaust pipe; 3 – additional muffler; 4 – main muffler
Removal
Mounting flange of the main muffler to the additional muffler
Disconnect the main muffler from the additional one by unscrewing the mounting nuts and removing the bolts.
Remove the main muffler by disconnecting the suspension mounts.
Connecting clamp of the inlet pipe of the mufflers and additional muffler
Disconnect the additional muffler from the main muffler and the muffler inlet pipe.
Remove the additional muffler by disconnecting the suspension cushion.
Fastening elements of the exhaust pipe to the catalytic converter
Loosen the bolts of the clamps securing the exhaust pipe and the nuts securing it to the catalytic converter.
Unscrew the bolt securing the inlet pipe to the additional muffler.
Installation
Install the exhaust pipe, additional and main mufflers in the listed order, and temporarily secure them.
Tighten the fasteners of the exhaust system components, making sure that they do not touch the body.
Warning! Only remove and inspect exhaust system components when the system is cold.
