Checking the exhaust system for leaks (Mitsubishi Matrix)

0
On vehicles with a regulated catalytic converter, leaks in the exhaust system connections before the oxygen concentration sensor (lambda probe) can lead to the following problems:
  • difficulty starting the engine;
  • the engine stalls;
  • uneven engine idling;
  • jerks when accelerating.

Verification condition

The engine is cold or has the temperature of your hand.

A source of compressed air is required for testing.

Start the engine and listen to the exhaust system while the engine is running for leaks.

Turn off the engine.

Insert the compressed air source (compressor) gun into the exhaust pipe and seal it with a rag.

Set the compressed air pressure to 6 bar. Turn on the gun.

Cover the connections between the cylinder head and exhaust manifold, exhaust manifold and muffler intake pipe, muffler intake pipe and catalytic converter with a leak detector and check for bubbles.

Eliminate leaks in the exhaust system.
