1 - Driver's airbag
Your HYUNDAI vehicle is equipped with an additional passive safety system (airbags) SRS. The presence of this system can be identified by the presence of the inscription "SRS AIR BAG" on the cover of the airbag in the steering wheel and on the panel trim on the front passenger side above the glove compartment.
The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) from Hyundai consists of airbags installed under the pads in the center of the steering wheel and in the panel on the front passenger side above the glove compartment. The task of the Supplemental Restraint System (airbags) SRS is to provide additional safety for the driver and/or front passenger in addition to the seat belt system in the event of a moderate to severe frontal impact.
Note: Be sure to read the SRS information on the labels located on the back of the driver's side sun visor and inside the glove compartment.
1 - Back blow
2 - Side kick
3 - Turning over
Warning:
- As the name of the SRS system indicates, this system is designed to complement and work in conjunction with the three-point seat belts of the driver and front passenger and is not a replacement for them. Therefore, you must always wear seat belts while in the car. Moreover, airbags are deployed only in very strong frontal impacts, sufficient to cause serious injuries to the car occupants.
- The SRS additional passive safety system is designed to deploy airbags only in very strong impacts, when the impact occurs at an angle of 30° from the longitudinal axis of the car, the airbags will not deploy in side and rear impacts or when the car rolls over onto its roof. In addition, the airbags deploy only once. Therefore, it is necessary to always fasten seat belts.
- Airbags are not designed to deploy in rear impacts, side impacts, or rollovers. In addition, airbags will not deploy in a frontal impact below a certain vehicle speed threshold.
- The driver should adjust the seat so that they are as far away from the airbag as possible, but still have easy access to all vehicle controls. Do not lean or sit too close to the airbag when the vehicle is moving - this could cause serious injury if the airbag inflates.
- Do not place any objects on or near the airbag modules - on the steering wheel, instrument panel and panel in front of the front passenger - they may injure you when the airbags deploy.
- If the airbags have deployed, they must be replaced at an authorized Hyundai dealer.
- Do not subject the SRS to any impact or disconnect any wiring or components - this may result in unexpected deployment of the airbags or failure of the system, o Do not install any child restraint systems (child seats) in the front seat. In the event of an accident, the deployment of the front passenger airbag may injure or kill the child seated in the restraint system (child seat).
- Do not allow children to be in the area in front of the front seat. If an adult child is sitting in the front seat, he or she should be wearing a seat belt and the seat should be moved as far back as possible, o For maximum protection in all types of collisions, all occupants, including the driver, should always wear seat belts, regardless of whether the seat has an airbag, to minimize the risk of injury or death in the event of an accident.
- To provide protection in a collision, the SRS airbags inflate very quickly and with great force. If the occupant is not wearing a seat belt, the airbag can strike the occupant with great force, which can cause serious or fatal injury.

Functions and elements of the SRS system

The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) includes the following components:
- 1 - Driver's front airbag assembly
- 2 - Front passenger front airbag assembly
- 3 - SRS (SRI) indicator light
- 4 - SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) Control Module (SRSCM)
The SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) Control Module (SRSCM) continuously monitors all system components when the ignition switch is in the "ON" position and determines whether a frontal or near-frontal impact is severe enough to deploy the air bags.

The SRS indicator light (SRI) in the instrument cluster will flash for approximately 6 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position or the engine is started, after which the light should go out.

The air bags are located in the center of the steering wheel and in the panel opposite the front passenger seat above the storage compartment. When the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) Control Module (SRSCM) detects a frontal impact of sufficient force, it automatically deploys the air bags.
1 - Front passenger airbag
When the airbags deploy, the airbag, which expands as it inflates with gas, knocks out the cover, which breaks along a special seam.
A fully deployed airbag, in combination with a properly fastened seat belt, slows the forward motion of the driver or front passenger, thereby reducing the risk of injury to the head and chest.
Caution: Do not place any additional equipment (cup holder, cassette holder, stickers, etc.) either near the instrument panel or on the surface of the instrument panel trim above the glove compartment. If the airbag deploys, such objects may be thrown into the vehicle with force and cause serious injury to vehicle occupants.
1 - Front passenger airbag
Once the airbag is fully inflated with gas, it immediately begins to deflate, providing the driver with forward visibility.
Caution: When placing a container with liquid air freshener in the car, do not place it near the dashboard on the surface of the dashboard trim. If liquid from the air freshener container leaks and gets on these parts (dashboard, dashboard trim or ventilation deflector), it may damage these parts. If liquid from the air freshener container gets on these places, immediately wash them with water.
Warning:
- When the SRS airbag deploys, a sharp, loud bang is heard and some smoke and dust (powder) are released. These phenomena are not dangerous and are normal. However, the dust (powder) generated when the airbags are inflated can cause skin irritation. After the airbags deploy, be sure to wash your face and hands with soap and warm water.
- The SRS system operates only when the ignition switch is in the "ON" position. If the SRS indicator light does not come on or comes on after flashing for approximately 6 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position, after the engine is started, or comes on while the vehicle is being driven, this indicates a malfunction in the SRS system. Have the SRS system checked immediately by your authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
- Before replacing a fuse or disconnecting a battery cable, turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" position or remove the key from the ignition switch. Never remove the SRS fuse with the ignition switch in the "ON" position, otherwise the SRS indicator light will come on.
Side airbags

Your Hyundai is equipped with side air bags for each front seat. The purpose of the side air bag is to provide protection for the driver and front passenger in addition to the seat belts. The side air bags are designed to deploy only in some side impacts, depending on the severity of the impact, the angle of the impact, the speed of the vehicle, and the location of the impact. The side air bags are not designed to deploy in all side impacts.
1 - Side impact sensor
Warning:
- For the best protection from side airbags, the driver and front passenger should be seated with seat belts fastened and the seatbacks in a nearly upright position. The driver's hands should be on the steering wheel at the 9:00 and 3:00 o'clock positions. The front passenger's hands should be on his lap.
- Do not put additional seat covers on.
- Using seat covers will reduce the efficiency of the system.
- Do not install any additional equipment on or near the side airbags.
- Do not apply excessive force to the side of the seat.
- Do not place any objects on top of the airbag or between you and the airbag.
- Do not place any objects (umbrella, bag, etc.) between the front door and the front seat. When the side airbag deploys, such objects may be thrown into the vehicle interior and cause serious injury.
- Do not apply any impact to the side airbag sensor when the ignition switch is in the "ON" position.
