Procedure

1. Raise the vehicle.

2. Turn the steering wheel fully counterclockwise.
Caution: Do not apply too much force when turning the steering wheel.
3. Remove the engine mount bracket.
4. Remove the water pump pulley.

5. Remove the upper timing belt cover.

6. Remove the lower timing belt cover.
Warning: Rotate the crankshaft clockwise only.

7. Turn the crankshaft clockwise and align the timing marks so that the piston in the first cylinder is positioned at top dead center in the compression stroke.
8. Loosen the bolt on the tensioner pivot point side and the bolt on the spline side.

9. Turn the crankshaft clockwise a full 2 teeth on the pulley.
Caution: To properly adjust the tension, set the exhaust rocker arm to the top cam position.
10. Make sure that the teeth of the pulley and timing belt match.
11. First tighten the bolt on the spline side and second tighten the bolt on the tensioner pivot point side.
12. Set the timing belt tension.
13. Install the lower timing belt cover.
14. Install the upper timing belt cover.
15. Install the water pump pulley and engine mount bracket.
