•The 1.6L engine manufactured in 1992 uses:
- toothed belt transmission in the drive of two camshafts of the gas distribution mechanism;
- v-belt drives in the drive of engine/car elements.
In 1.6 l and 1.8 l engines produced since 1993 the following are used:
- toothed belt transmission in the drive of two camshafts of the gas distribution mechanism;
- toothed belt transmission in the balance shaft drive;
- v-belt transmission in the drive of engine/car elements.
The 2.0L engine uses:
- toothed belt drive in the exhaust camshaft drive;
- chain transmission of the intake camshaft drive;
- v-belt drives in the drive of engine/car elements.
Toothed belt
The drive element of the overhead camshafts is a silently running toothed belt driven by the crankshaft. The rubber toothed belt, reinforced with steel wire, operates without wear, since the rubber composition of the toothed belt also serves as a dry lubricant for the gears. In 1.6L and 1.8L engines, the toothed belt drives the oil pump in addition to the camshafts. The toothed belt is tensioned by a special tension roller.
