Electronic immobilizer (anti-theft engine start blocking system) (Hyundai Getz 1)

The immobilizer is designed to minimize the likelihood of your car being stolen.

Keys

All the locks of your car can be opened with one key. However, since the doors can be locked without using a key, it is recommended to carry a spare key with you in case you accidentally lock the key inside your own car.

Note: If you make your own duplicate key, you will not be able to disable the system or start the engine.

Key numbers

Key numbers

Your car key number is not stamped on the key itself, but on a removable metal number plate that is attached to the keys when the car is handed over to you.

Your key number should be written down and kept in a safe place so that you can order a duplicate key if necessary. New keys can be ordered from any authorized Hyundai dealer by providing them with the numbers of the necessary keys.

For security reasons, you must remove the metal number plate from the key after you receive the car. Moreover, HYUNDAI does not provide key numbers for security reasons.

If you require an additional key or if you have lost your keys, your authorized Hyundai dealer can make a new key for you.

Emergency operation mode

Emergency operation mode

If the immobilizer malfunction indicator lamp flashes for five seconds after turning the ignition key to the "ON" (BKFL) position, it means that the immobilizer is faulty. If the immobilizer is faulty, you will not be able to start the engine without performing the emergency operation mode operations using the ignition key. The operations that must be performed to start the engine in emergency operation mode are described below (the numbers 0, 1, 2, 3 are given as an example for the password).

Note: You can find out the password for switching to the emergency mode when you receive your new car. If you do not have the password, contact your authorized Hyundai dealer.

1. To enter the password, you need to turn the ignition key to the "ON" position and then to the "OFF" position, according to the numbers of the digits. For example, for the digit "1", turn the ignition key in the specified order once, for the digit "2", twice, etc. If the digit number is "0", you need to turn the ignition key in the specified order ten times.

2. Wait 3-10 seconds.

3. Enter the remaining digits of the password, following steps 1 and 2.

4. If all four digits have been entered successfully, from now on you must start the engine within 30 seconds. After 30 seconds the engine will not be able to start.

Note: If the engine stalls while driving in the emergency operation mode, you can start the engine within 8 seconds without performing the operation to enter the emergency operation mode again.

5. If the immobilizer malfunction indicator lamp flashes for five seconds, then to start the engine you must repeat the operations to enter the emergency operation mode again.

After switching to emergency mode, contact your authorized Hyundai dealer as soon as possible.

Attention:
  • If you have failed to successfully perform the emergency operation steps three times in a row, you must wait approximately one hour before performing these steps again.
  • If, despite the fact that you have successfully performed the emergency operation procedures, you are still unable to start the engine, have your vehicle towed to an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
