Withdrawal
Carefully remove the hub cap (4) plastic or rubber mallet or screwdriver.
Apply the handbrake and slightly loosen the self-locking nut (5), without turning it off completely.
1 - wheel speed sensor (only on vehicles with ABS);
2 - brake caliper;
3 - brake disc;
4 - hub cap;
5 - self-locking nut;
6 - inner race of the outer wheel bearing;
7 - rotor (only on vehicles with ABS);
8 - rear wheel hub;
A - drum brake;
B - disc brake.
Remove the brake caliper.
After unscrewing the retaining bolt, remove the brake disc (3)
Remove the wheel speed sensors (if available).
Unscrew the nut (5) and remove the outer roller bearing.
Remove the brake drum, wheel hub.
On vehicles with ABS: remove the wheel hub and rotor.
Installation
Check the O-ring on the back of the hub/drum. If there are traces of grease, replace the ring.
Make sure that there are no defects in the surface of the bearings and their cages.
Check the hub, brake drum for wear and damage.
Insert the hub/brake drum and, if available, the rotor.
Fill with bearing grease and insert outer bearing.
Tighten the new self-locking nut to 150 Nm. At the same time, keep the hub from turning by inserting a pry bar between the studs. Install the wrench horizontally. Tighten the nut in several steps, at intervals turning the hub / brake drum in different directions so that the bearing does not jam.
Check wheel bearing play. Required value: 0.2 mm. If the play is large, tighten the hub nut to a maximum of 200 Nm until the required play is obtained.
Install the wheel speed sensor, if equipped.
Check the bearing breakaway torque by attaching the cord at one end to the hub/brake drum studs. Attach a steelyard to the other end of the cord and pull at a 90°angle to the studs until the hub/brake drum begins to rotate. In this case, the readings of the spring scales should not exceed 2.2 kg. If the starting torque is very high, unscrew the hub nut a little. If the required tightening force, bearing play and breakaway torque are reached at the same time, replace the hub bearings.
Fill the hub cap with bearing grease and insert it into the hub as far as it will go.
Install the brake disc or brake drum.
